Gradient Keeper
Off-topic, but a weather event I find very underrated was the windstorm on March 15th, 2015. It was a weak 995-1000 mb low, made a landfall just north of Astoria, and created wind gusts for 45-60 mph throughout the Willamette Valley. It was quite a surprise, as the only model which picked up on the strength of the winds was the NAM. I remember that it struck during one of my piano recitals, and caused quite the chaotic scene when several outdoor chairs took flight and hit the windows. Off-topic, I know, but it was a cool little storm. Not as cool as April 7th, 2017, but a really nice storm.I sadly don't even remember this wind event/storm. 00z GFS in 1 minute00z ECMWF in 2 hours 19 minutes
Gradient Keeper
My usual mantra of "Think Cold and SNOW" is transitioning to a downgraded, "Think Columbia Basin Cold Pool!", and if that doesn't work, "Think brief and transitory split-flow!", and if that doesn't work we'll go with, "Think it's Spring or Summer because Winter isn't looking so shabby!", and if that doesn't work we'll end up eventually with, "Think about grabbing those folks or any other sharp utensils!" Well, let's just take things one step at a time. Cautiously optimistic! 6z NAM in 4 hours 12 minutes

SilverFallsAndrew
Depends where you live. My wife and I make like 1/3rd of that combined, $CDN. And we are okay. Wow that is cool to know. I thought the implication some made last night that somehow Canada did not pull their weight during the world wars was pretty misinformed. Canada actually lost more men in WWI than the US even though the US had a population about 10X as high. Much of that was due to the fact Canada entered the war much earlier than the US. In WWII Canada's share of military deaths was slightly higher compared to their relative population compared to the US. Given Canada's population they are never going to be one of the top 3 military powers and it will generally fall to nations with higher populations like the US to do a lot of the heavy lifting in a globalized conflict such as WWII. Canada has nothing to be ashamed of though. 1 Quote Snowfall Precip 2022-23: 95.0" 2022-23: 17.39" 2021-22: 52.6" 2021-22: 91.46" 2020-21: 12.0" 2020-21: 71.59" 2019-20: 23.5" 2019-20: 58.54" 2018-19: 63.5" 2018-19: 66.33" 2017-18: 30.3" 2017-18: 59.83" 2016-17: 49.2" 2016-17: 97.58" 2015-16: 11.75" 2015-16: 68.67" 2014-15: 3.5" 2013-14: 11.75" 2013-14: 62.30 2012-13: 16.75" 2012-13: 78.45 2011-12: 98.5" 2011-12: 92.67" It's always sunny at Winters Hill! SilverFallsAndrew
Define decent standard of living. I have several kids and I own my own home on 3 acres. My wife and I each have a reliable vehicle. We travel pretty domestically frequently, and usually have a little leftover at the end of the month. I consider that a good/decent standard of living. Probably not as opulent as many on this forum, but better than others. Our combined income is a bit less than half of the number I used above. El_Nina
My car got hit tonight by a woman who appeared to be on some sort of stimulants. She said she slipped on the ice and that's how she hit me? Some good drugs out there I guess cause it was 40 degrees!
