Have you ever had a chance to check out Alsea falls?

Yes, I went there as a kid and then summer of 2017. I hiked the whole trail when I was a teenager, but 20 years later my memories are a little fuzzy. I just went to the fall near the parking lot last time because my daughter was only about 6 wks old.

Well, the first third of the month was pretty torchy.

Regardless, SEA and PDX both saw 6 sub-freezing highs with that event, and OLM saw 12 straight days with highs 35 or below. I can tell you that did not happen every other winter in the 1950s and 1960s. :)

Maybe the incredible cold just by passed southern BC in 2008. Bad luck I guess. There were a couple of impressively cold nights in wind sheltered areas with deep snowcover, though.

As for Phil's question if it could do with UHI. Probably not in this case. I have noticed a bit of an UHI effect especially with lows at SLE the past twenty years, but its not like they had a bunch of highs in the 25-26 range.

Did the station move at all? And/or did the land right around the station change? (IE: A new building, road, or changes in the forestry)?

It wasn't too impressive for most areas from an outright cold perspective. We saw much deeper and more intense airmasses throughout the 20th century. 2008 was impressive for its snow and duration but the temps were largely forgettable.

I've never personally eaten them but that makes sense since they are scavengers and will drink/eat whatever are available to them.

Food that is high in cholesterol isn’t necessarily bad for you, and it generally won’t raise the cholesterol content in your bloodstream to a statistically significant degree. That whole thing is a myth. Don’t take my word for it..read the literature.

It’s more about the HDL/LDL ratio, and what that could be indicative of as it relates to atherosclerosis. Ironically, said ratio is better-correlated to insulin levels, carbohydrate intake, etc, and not fat consumption.

Yeah, I know all about the high cholesterol myth the pharmaceutical companies push to sell their statin drugs. I was replying to the raccoons being high in lead which is what we don't want in our bodies.

I consider myself health conscious so I try to stay on a high fat ketogenic diet as much as I can. I try and absolutely avoid anything with high fructose corn syrup.

Your area of Snohomish was the exception, as I recall you guys cleared out on the 19th/20th after the big czone dump up there and got a nice snowcover assist.

Yeah I think we were sitting at just over 2 feet of snow by that point...the deep snowcover did help. The amount of snow, the duration of the entire event, and that -2 reading really does make rank among the best I that have been a part of in my 42yrs of life...so far. Nov. 1985 a close second.

You’re a smart dude. That s**t is poison.

I eliminated all wheat, all processed sugars, and most carbs/sugars in general from my diet starting last September and it’s changed my life. I’ve lost 22lbs without even trying, my migraines are gone, and I no longer need coffee to get going in the morning. Those health issues had been nagging me for years and now..poof..they’re just gone. It’s amazing.

My weakness is diet soda but I’m working on it, lol.

Everything shows the hammer ready to drop on us at the end of the month.  Even the ECMWF ensemble mean has the plus height anom in the sweet spot by the end of week two.  Now we just need for the idea to not change.

One thing that every model is showing is ridges piggy backing over the top of the main Eastern Pacific ridge during week two which causes it to step backward every time one of those comes along.

It's just so awesome to see the East Coast get their multiple snowstorms!

They are really overdue. It's been like a whole two months!!!

I really think the entire north is going to get its turn with this upcoming pattern change.

If that is the storm i am thinking of it dropped 32 inches at sea level in Hoodsport on the hood canal over a couple days. There was 60 inches at lake cushman and people had to bw rescued. There was over 3 feet in parts of western Kitsap county.

Wow!
