December 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

The EPS looks quite a bit different than that right now.

Last December was a blast furnace. Glad we’re not repeating that, though it tried hard.

Even if late Dec fails, I still think the best/longest window is later in January and possibly Feb (now that I’m able to see farther ahead than I could in Oct/Nov).

Would be funny if Feb delivered again.

I'd find it slightly irritating, but only slightly. I'd really prefer to get the goods when the sun angle is low, but getting them in February beats not getting them at all.

It's called clown range for a reason.

It wouldn’t surprise me if February delivers again. It’s been pretty good in delivering snow in recent years. If it happened this year...that would be 4 in a row!

Surprise Willamette Valley thunderstorm special today.

reminds me of some of the thunderstorm set ups we had last fall in this area. On 10/28 and 11/27 last year my house was in the sweet spot to get nailed several times in one day by heavy rain hail and lightning.

Welcome to life on the east coast, where Dec is guaranteed to fail 80% of the time and Feb/Mar is the heart of snowfall season.

He operates in that nebulous, semi-serious/semi-trolling space quite a bit...not pure trolling, more often than not it's inner weenie poking out.

In other words, sometime when you think he's trolling, he's not actually - and vice versa.  ;)

Sounds reasonable.

One of the things I grew to like about being on Bainbridge Island is that for some reason, the island is on a thunderstorm track. On days when thunderstorms were breaking out in the Seattle area, B.I. would often get three or four in succession.

Sounds like 1600' in the Cascade foothills of Oregon too.

Today reminds me a lot of 12/14/10. We have a fairly cool airmass aloft moving in with valley temps still in the 50s and some nice mixing.

well you guys overall have a better shot in any given year to have snow and cold than we do. NE has crazy winters compared to the western WA/OR lowlands.

yeah bainbridge is NE of the “tornado alley” on the kitsap peninsula by port orchard. That area gets hit a lot in these set ups. That tornado that went through there on 12/18 last year wasn’t too far from where my mom lives at.

People in Western WA and OR would love a 20% success rate in December (or any other month). Most of them dont live where I live, where we have a white Christmas more than 90% of the time.

Moderate to heavy rain in Tacoma with breezy southerlies. Looks like some heavier bands are trying to form behind this one as well. Decent SW flow set up currently.

Saw that on Ventrice's Twitter.

And that helps the Northwest how? By building up a death ridge right over us for endless days of inversions?

I want to see this color right over the top of my house!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!
