I don't mind him gone for a bit. Change of pace, if nothing else. You're right in that it at least temporarily gets his attention and will temporarily get him to tone down the trolling a tad.

But I don't feel strongly either way. He's a fixture on the forum, so I get why people are already getting Timstalgia ;)

I've noticed it seems to be mostly newbies with just a couple regulars. Which makes sense given some of the history here.

Two winters. We outperformed the Sounders pretty handily prior to that for quite a stretch. Things have a way of evening out.

To be fair, it was really only 2 winters before that that Portland meaningfully outperformed Seattle: 16-17 and 13-14.

Before that, Seattle fared better 2 winters in a row: 11-12 and 10-11.

So it kinda was Portland's turn.

Are the Seattle Media scared to talk about just how much snow the northern metro area is prognosticated to receive in the next 48 hours !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

The media is such a joke. Too bad some don't know how to look at the models to make their own conclusions but rather rely on gluing to the TV watching the media outlets telling them about the snow.

TT will get a much needed break from the forum. Even if you don't like his style, he always post important maps we want to see. Looking forward to his return.

Colder than I thought, I think that's colder than any day Dec 2008 or any other blast since then. Today was still very impressive by recent standards, though its unlikely we see any extreme lows with all the cloud cover.

Yeah, it's a bummer that there likely won't be a single night with much clearing in most areas this time around. Especially once there is more widespread snow cover.

I’d give Portland the nod in 2017-18. The February stuff, which was by far the best stretch of the winter, was unusually centered on us. Yes, there was the white Xmas but that was one-off.

Then we had the little guy in January 2016 which was much more Portland-centric.

It felt like there was a shoe waiting to drop.

Not sure he's taking much of a break. I'm on my phone so I can't see, but apparently he's liking posts left and right, and urgently passing along his thoughts through other mediums.

Heavy lurking. He's an addict, just like the rest of us.

He obviously doesn't remember how SEA couldn't buy a sub-freezing high while Eugene was putting up 19/-10 days.

This event does remind me some of January 2012. Except there was a lot more moisture streaming into W. Oregon south of the arctic front during that. It snowed 21" here on 1/17/12 and then rained 5.36" the next day... That was pretty wild.

I don't consider 2015-16 to be meaningful, but I guess you're right about 2017-18.

So PDX will be dew next winter...

Anybody know why the snow showers are blowing up in the middle of kitsap?  I know when it's going the opposite direction the cold air is damming up against the olympics.  You can really see it on the doppler.  Just tiny flakes and a little blue and then blows up to big shower.

It's the onshore flow rounding the olympics delivering low rate snowfall to the Seattle metro while to the north and elevated areas get dumped on.  :)
