I have a feeling a big time storm is gonna hit here while I’m out of town. Last time I was in Seattle was 2019 and we got slammed with an 80-90mph microburst the first afternoon I was gone. I wonder what it’ll be this time.

"Smoked a bowl" is a very common and accepted phrase way more than you think or feel.  It is way better than whatever the youngins probably call it nowadays, they probably say "i have partaken in some smoked herbs, it was enlightening".

Update to this story.  Within about ten minutes of me posting this, there was a second fire in the same area as the fireworks (and the same spot the fire happened on Sunday) and I had to call the fire department.  Now I no longer think this was accidental.  I think this person is trying to start a fire in this location for some reason. Again, it is right at the edge of a forest. I would have updated sooner, but I had to go to work.  

Now I am worried what will happen if I am not home and hear and see the smoke from the fire.  I doubt anyone will call.  It could cause real problems and cause a forest fire within the city as well as risk many homes.

Can verify the Dulles sensors are accurate. Misting right out of the smog this AM.

If 101.1°F SST reading is accurate (debatable) it might be a world record. Questions as to whether organic matter may have skewed the reading a couple degrees too high. Guess we’ll find out.

This week looks absolutely perfect for you per the 06Z ECMWF.   Today is partly cloudy and then fairly sunny Wednesday through Friday but staying below 80 even in Seattle... even cooler in Everett of course.   Tomorrow is quite sunny and only low to mid 70s in Seattle.

Drizzle kept going out here for a few hours after the main frontal passage last night... ended up with .55 and everything looks happily soaked and wet this morning.

Here is the 4-panel cloud loop for the rest of the week... low clouds never really fill in and not much in the way of mid-level clouds after the band passing through this morning.    Looks fairly sunny but never totally sunny.    And should be smoke-free.   The left two panels are the most meaningful in terms of being cloudy or sunny... the ECMWF tends to make high clouds look thicker than reality.  Should be a visually beautiful week ahead with pleasant temps.

So much hot weather in Texas that I figured it had to be all brown and burnt up... so I thought I would check out what it looks like there.   Dallas has had about an inch of rain total since June 1st and somehow its still fairly green despite being frequently in the 100s.

Heavenly.   I seriously just walked around the yard to take it all in.   Summer is ruined without getting some meaningful rain every once in awhile.    Per climo in my area.

They just don’t know what’s going on. My daughter has probably never seen it rain this time of year before.

High humidity has its benefits. No homeless encampments and side street fires.

Scoring one of those that yields another half inch or so would be the cherry atop the sundae for this event.

Regardless of region-wide rainfall totals, this is a remarkable system coming through in what is the climatological driest time of the year.

Yesterday I picked up 0.81" which made it the wettest July day I've recorded on my weather station (surpassing the thunderstorm total of 0.73" on July 3, 2012). The wind also almost gusted to 30 mph which was the second strongest July gust I've recorded.

BLI picked up 0.73" yesterday on their second driest calendar day of the year. Before yesterday it had only rained more than 0.01" on four days since 1949. The 0.73" total is also the wettest single day so far of 2023. I assume they'll have a wetter day come autumn, but if not it would be wild to have the wettest day of a year to be statistically almost the driest day.

I didn't realize how badly BLI is running below normal on precip this year. Only 8.89" on the year after yesterday, around 50% of normal. That stat about it being the wettest day of the year is also incredible.

Turbulence was crazy going over the appalachians this AM. Assuming decaying MCS remnants were responsible.

0.10” of rain here. Quite significant for July, but will be a distant memory by tomorrow.
