Phil
Considered extending our stay on Saint Simons to experience hurricane Idalia, but decided against it. Hurricane Matthew in 2016 missed offshore as a Cat2 and still managed to cut the island off from the mainland due to storm surge flooding. This one is coming from a different direction, but still, if surge becomes an issue you’re on your own. I'd rather have an early start to fall. No matter how bad the winter was, I'm always ready for some warmer/sunnier weather to start by May as the days get long. And on the flip side, no matter what the summer was like, I'm always ready for the rains and fall storms to start to return by late August as the sun angles wane. But the lack of balance has always been an issue for me with our climate, especially now that the summers have gone off the rails and gone full Bakersfield on us. 2. Little different here on this side of the Cascades. Rain is just the reality for us and the default precip mode 99% of the time in the winter, so there's not much reason to need to root for it. Snow is the underdog, so I'm always happy to see that flakey white goodness falling from the sky here because it really is a novelty anytime of the year.
