It's because of the endless east wind in the area right now.  I'm sick of it.

Yeah, if the January 2011 event had worked out…then it would’ve been the winter of the century past 2008-2009 and 2018-2019. 2 really good events and a near miss on a 3rd one. That miss in 2011 was pretty sad was forecast to be a week straight of snow and cold.

No doubt.  It would have rounded that winter out very nicely.  The fact is the basic setup was actually in place for it to happen.

GFS delivers two solid cold shots.  Some stations could end up normal or slightly below for the month.

We have discussed this ad nauseum.    It looks like that all winter unless it just snowed.   Doesn't mean anything.   It just the steepness and the direction it faces.

True. Steep South facing cliffs like that are snow free most of the Winter at any elevation here.

At OLM, June/July 2011 was cooler than any other June/July this millennium, except 2001. There was only one July from 1967-1985 that was truly cooler than 2011 (1977, as 1976 was virtually tied with 2011).

There was also an exceptional run of cool Junes from 2007-2012. Five out of six ran below the long term average at OLM. It was the coolest such stretch for June since the 1950s.

It truly was odd timing that it was my first summer in Klamath Falls and thought having a couple 90+ days the entire year was normal there at the time 🤪

I look back at Summer 2011 every once in a while. As an individual season, hard to beat it though there were some things I didn't like about 2011 as a calendar year. The seasons had less of a transition. 2016 was probably the most character building year for me when I lived there. I didn't forget about summer 2019 (very average) but aside from a few really great months that year had to offer it would still come a bit short with all things weighed.

Maybe I strayed a little off the point but basically I was breaking down how each year went. 2011 had a nice mild summer but couldn't like the rest of that year.

Got up to 28 but cooling down as it begins to lightly snow again. Hoping for an inch or two instead of ice. These deer have been hanging out a lot here recently.

Won’t get half that but fun to look at.

been snowing all day here lightly, temp made it all the way up 27 imby and now down to 25 again with the snow starting to pick up a little more. Everything is still beautiful outside as the snow only melted on some of the main roads around town. Looking like another couple inches tonight before we finally warm up tomorrow. This is 4 straight days with snow falling. Probably nothing else until the end of the month which looks decent again here. Pffft, what El Niño?

We're getting off very easy for this being such a strong Nino.  The real torching is well east of us.

Solar winter is the 3 darkest months of the year. It lasts from about November 5 to February 5. Meteorological winter is from December 1 to the last day of February. Astronomical winter is from the Winter Solstice to the Spring Equinox. Sadly the first one is already over for those who dislike sunlight and warm weather.

Yeah, no matter what this winter is a W for us and continues the streak of at least decent performances.

We managed a historically cold airmass and overall we will also stave off being the focus of the warmth, unlike a year like 2014-15 or 2002-03 where we were ground zero. Also looks likely that we're going to at least have another crack at lowland snow at a time when Ninos traditionally favor spring-like temps.

Yeah it's incredible. Like Tim gets up there with a big flame thrower at night to protect the palm forest.

No, he knows that the soils wont support any kind of high elevation palm, which are few and far between anyway. Pinyon and ponderosa will do just fine as they creep up the side over the next few decades. It’ll look cool during the fall as the cottonwoods and maples get chased up the mountain peak.

I think a lot of us will enjoy seeing flora that can look lovely in a warmer and drier climate.
