Both the 00Z GFS and 00Z GEM are much less troughy for next week.

A little early for the dry season to be starting.

If I were in SE King County, I'd be getting pretty nervous about the prospects for a really wet Memorial Day to 4th of July stretch.

Interesting, that’s kind of similar to here, then (w/rt the “instant” start time and lack of precip). Are the winds more sustained out there or are they more gusty?

Out this way the big league windstorms are driven by mountain waves and downsloping under post-frontal CAA/pressure rises. So winds usually manifest as strong, pulsing gusts that come in sets of 2-3 (except in exceptional events, which can rip nonstop, but that is uncommon).

Yes.

The winds usually have a pretty healthy sustained element here in Bellingham with us being on the water and I guess as for how gusty it is, it depends on the type of storm and location.  Frasier outflows are definitely mostly sustained winds where I am, where as the fall windstorms are more likely to be gusty at my location.  I would say that 3-4 times a year we go from calm to trees bent over in an instant.  The places I play soccer at are both very open and exposed, and they tend to see more sustained winds in a storm, but again, they are closer to the water.

Another time that is inevitably windy here is when we have the ski to sea race out here Memorial Day weekend.  I've done the canoe leg a couple of times, and by early afternoon there is usually a decent south wind coming off the bay.  The tail end of the canoe leg is out in the open, flat part of the county and is getting blasted those winds.  There were times we literally were not moving...our paddling force+push of the river current=the force of the wind.  Abso-f*cking-lutely sucked.  We would have to hunt to find the sweet spot in the current or a break in the wind.  It was a 20 mile canoe leg, and this happened in 3 or 4 spots over the course of the last 3-5 miles.

I've since  moved on to the kayak, and I can usually make pretty good headway even in a strong headwind.  Worst I've been in was about  10-15 knots sustained.  They cancelled the leg soon after I got out on the water because they were having to do too many rescues.  I made it, but passed a lot of people who were getting fished out by the Coasties and the local Sheriff & Fire boats.  Its always a south wind, one of these days the gods will smile on us and give us a north wind.  Being able to surf the swell would be a hell of a boost to race times!

Indeed... would fit the 2010 analog too.

This makes no sense.   I don't control the weather.   I said yesterday that too much warm and dry weather in April is often an indicator of the opposite in early summer.  So if I wish for cold and rain now then will I be able to change what happens in the summer?  I will try to be careful Jared.   🙄

2022 was the most messed up year I have experienced here.   Trees started leafing out in early April and then were stunted by all the cold weather... and then summer went on forever... and then we went right into winter at the end of October.   We basically skipped spring and fall.  The trees kept their leaves into December here even when it was snowing because they were trying to make up for the unusually cold spring.

Still very light drizzle (opposite of heavy Drizzle, Phil, so you don’t get very wet) here and dark as well.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Just a little bit of rain overnight, and didn’t get all that cool with a low of 46. Sun is already coming out this morning and it looks like the action is over with sun and warm temps the next three days. Hoping we can break out of the weather doldrums at some point.

Seems when you score I get shafted and vice versa. 😂 I’ve been seeing flashes of lightning for the last 90 mins and there’s a bowing line of storms approaching from the southwest. Feels like an over-performer incoming.

Another pattern too I've noticed is usually when the increasing dynamics "start" around these counties I can get shafted in those. When Louisville/Lexington are in the thick and also includes me, I score the better ones. I need already matured and organized convection reaching those points before they get to Boyd County.

Still, probably shouldn't be bummed at not getting a thunder, I've had quite a high number of them for this time of year. If they continue on a weekly basis this summer, I might get to 60 of them for 2024 🤣

lol I recall there being another rare stretch of 100's at KLMT that year, 5 days in a row? It's hard to get just one of them there.

After 2013, there wasn't another 100+ until June of 2021.

Today's our wedding anniversary and it's shaping up to be a nice day. A few high clouds but sunny. My wife is taking her driving test today. She had to take the written also.

Late July? Very long heat wave happened then. One day I saw it rain with temps in the mid-90s in Tigard which is probably some of the most un-PNWlike weather I’ve seen in the PNW.

If that rain came with a chance of t'storms that used to happen more as a kid. More recently it looks like summer time storms are more of a east side thing.

And yeah, late July sounds right for that heatwave in 2022. I left there in Nov '21 but I still have a couple family members there that tell me some things. Apparently December and April was their winter, but not much snow fell between those months. Late winter seems to be all or nothing for them these last few years. It's a contrast to ones like 2011, 2012, or 2017 that had more consistent periods of snow.
