How much property do you have?

21 acres. Amazing to see how well the cold stays there. it was 30 there when it was 38 at the pass. gets in the teens almost every night even when there is not much cold air to work with.

Wife and I are looking into a cabin in E. WA. We have a 5 year plan to get something over there. Wife is from over there and is tired of two seasons.

I will start building a home in a few years. This is just a place to relax now. cabin is only 10x24 but it has a loft so sleeps 5 no problem. I get there and i dont want to leave. So relaxing.

Here's the map the NWS just released. I assume that video was taken before it went over land. Looks like it intensified to an F1 after that video ended.

 

That or it was a different waterspout?

I wonder if we have ever had a tornado in January before? This seems very global warming/ climate change like symptom to me.

Probably will be the wettest January on record at Juneau. The driest Januaries? 1950 and 1969 of course!

I wonder how much snow the icefield has been getting.... There are a couple weather stations up there and they all have been at around 28 degrees this month... With the way this january has been going I wouldn't doubt it if it was just rain.

Another day of low clouds and 40 degree temps nearly all day. At least yesterday was nice most of the day, looks like we'll be cloudy and 40 for most of the next week, how fun.

Juneau is the new Portland light. 

 

The entire Pacific Northwest is getting torched. So sick of this maddening weather. I read recently that Eagle Crest Ski resort near Juneau is on limited operations due to the low snow year:

 

Eaglecrest Ski Area closed yesterday and will be closed today due to warm weather and rain, according to a release.

 

Let us hope and pray that Feb and March are more kind to us.

Also try to keep in mind that Januaries 2007, 2008, and 2009 were below the 30 year average at SEA!

 

2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013 were all below the entire period of record average.

Great view of the comet tonight!  It's hard to see with the city lights, but if you are looking, grab some binos, look for the Pleiades (currently straight up in the sky) then go a little to the right and down from them.  It's just a green glow, but still cool to see!

Wow...I've seen steaming piles of dog crap that look better than tonight's GFS. This is certainly one of most persistent awful regimes I've seen. Certainly on par with 1991-92.

 

If we can avoid doing a retry on the El Nino later in the year things should get a lot better. Horrific winters like 1982-83, 1991-92, and 2002-03 normally lead to much more interesting weather the second half of the year. I suppose one of the more bothersome aspects is the fact the pattern is THIS bad with such a weak Nino. Not unprecedented though when you look at winters like 1952-53 and 1980-81.

They fly over my house sometimes while migrating, but my property is not really satisfying to them. They go invade in cities 20-30 minutes away thankfully.

SEA has been as low as 39 already so they have a shot. Most likely they bottom out around 34-35 though.

While things are looking fairly relentless more within the main mid-latitudes, I'm seeing some improvement where looking at more primary cold air's shifting focus through higher latitudes.

My view more basic, .. if things break for the better any time soon, it'll be with cold's better position where working to consolidate North.

It appears we could have a mixed atmosphere at that time also. We could threaten some monthly record highs. March of last year through now is up there with the worst long term torches on record for us.

I was down in Victoria earlier today and noticed that the city crews have been at work.  Some freshly mowed lawns along the roadsides.

Things don't look good on the ENSO front either. Just when all of the warm subsurface water was running out and a big tongue of cold subsurface water was about to upwell the SOI crashed and a WWB is in progress. That will probably create another warm Kelvin wave which will almost certain rekindle the El Nino. Hopefully some of that cold subsurface will still be able to reach the surface, but it will have a hard time now. If we have an El Nino next winter there is almost no chance the winter will have much worthwhile weather given the fact second year Nino winters always suck. A pretty grim situation for us right now if you like below normal temps.
