Just as a type, the intensity has picked up as I just measured 0.8" on my deck.  Nice fatties flying as we speak.

Man that's awesome! Have you ever seen a set up like this before?! I don't recall Chicago getting much lake effect snow outside of storm systems causing lake enhancement.

I just can't believe how persistent this lake band has been.  You know the saying "finger lookin good"...that "finger" of a band over N COOK is directly over my house and it's lookin' good.  This has been a remarkable experience.  One I'll prob never forget....not much wind and huge fatty flakes flying.  Simply amazing.

NWS didn't do too bad with this snow event. It was supposed to be up to around an inch here and ended up with a solid 1.0" here in Ashland. A little more fell in West Virginia/Ohio with amounts closer to 3".

It feels like our “2 weeks of winter” which typically has been in Feb started early this year.  If that’s the case, it kicked off last Sunday and should gradually come to a close next Sunday.  Next week looking interesting for the final stretch.  Guessing we’ll return to mild conditions after that, so hoping to enjoy whatever comes our way before then.

I’d say somewhere between 3.5-4.0”. Heading to my parents this evening who are a bit further east of here and we’re in that main band for the majority of the early morning hours, so curious to see how they ended up.  Guessing they made it to 6”+

Great little surprise LES for us on this side of the lake.

Yup, nice surprise for sure.  That's about what I got to and it already has settled down to roughly 3" or just below.  ORD officially had 3.3 through Noon.  Seems kinda low since I was by my sisters this morning who lives by Rosemont and it had to be over 4".

Fun Fact...the 3.3" of snow that fell at ORD had only 0.8" of qpf...40:1 ratio snow!

Saw this from DTX..

The bolded is their way of saying "we totally whiffed on this one". Don't think they had anything like that forecast and no headlines at all up in the Thumb.

UPDATE...

Received a number of snow reports out of the eastern Thumb/Sanilac
County with 7 to 8.5 inches of lake effect during the morning and
afternoon hours.
Latest satellite derived water temperatures of
around 36 F was good for sfc-850mb Delta Ts of approximately 17C and
equilibrium heights of some 7000 ft agl. The most noteworthy aspect
of the setup was supersaturation wrt ice between 1.3 to 4.0 kft agl
which was directly within the -10 to -20C DGZ. Difficult little event
with KDTX out for the SLEP and solely relying on Exeter Environment
Canada radar returns

The official overnight low so far at GRR was +1. Here at my house with clouds hanging in it was a warmer +11. At this time the official reading is +9 and here at my house it it 12. There is now 6.0" of snow on the ground. And yes it now looks like a good amount of the snow will be to the SE of here next week. But it still looks to get cold next weekend.

15% RH at KLNK at the moment. That has to be the lowest I've seen since I've moved here 2017, I can't remember anything below 20%

At 4:45 pm at my house, 59 degrees, 13% humidity and a dew of 8.  As dry around here as I can remember in a long time. We need a storm badly.

My daughter and her family are currently dealing with 24” of snow on Cape Cod.
Saw 70mph winds.
Power’s out.  That’s a winter storm. 🥶

There was just a trace of snow fall here yesterday. There is still 6" of snow on the ground here and there now has been at least 1" of snow on the ground for 35 days in a row. This January with the the 1st one with at 1" or more on the ground for the whole 31 days since 2014. At this time with cloudy skies it is 17 here. This weeks storm now very much looks to pass the Grand Rapids area to the SE. That is rather typical for this area as the bulk of system storms pass us to the NW or SE we are not in a typical area for heavy systems snows.

Iowa has done well. I have officially  measured  on my board 6.7 Jan 1,2 and 12.2  Jan 14,15. So 18.7" for entire season.  All others were trace or less. Not too shabby here near Ottumwa, Iowa

We managed a decent 16" through mid January as well, but it appears we will be stuck here for a while.

A funny memory popped up on facebook. Remember the chem-snow in Georgia? 😝

Snow anywhere else is no conspiracy except for when it happens there.

Least snowiest year is 1967-68 with 7.9" (same year as LNKs record with 7.2"), then 2nd spot is 11.1". They still got a ways to go to avoid first or second place. Even if a storm takes the classic Norfolk-SIoux City jack zone, I'll be happy just to get the rain associated with it lol.

With some clearing here at my house the low dropped down to 14 but with the clouds back in it is now up to 19. There was just a trace of snow fall yesterday. The snow on the ground here is now down to 5.5″ It still looks like the bulk of the snow fall with this incoming system will stay to the SE of Grand Rapids and I look to have even less than the airport at this time.
