Probably right... but even that still could feature some c-zone snow events for the lowlands.

I always thought of SE SD as a barren, boring landscape as well but turns out it's not 100% true. Obviously I'm not comparing it to the PNW topography but it's not as bad as what most people have in their minds.

As an example, Palisades state park is just 30 minutes outside Sioux Falls (about 10 mins from the town we might end up in) and looks pretty beautiful.

sd-state-parks-1.jpg

There's also Newton Hills state park which is 40 minutes south of Sioux Falls.

We even have a lake too! Lake Madison is 45 minutes away.

That top pic is super cool... looks like some glacial remnants.

Nothing is as bad as Moses Lake.

Unless you are on the lake! My mom and late step dad lived on the lake from 1997 thru 2012. You could see the mountains in the distance and the sunsets were amazing! Along with ice fishing in the winter! I tried to talk her into keeping the place after my step dad died and rent it since I knew prices would just continue to creep up but she just didn’t want anything to do with it after he died. It was a few hundred feet of waterfront and I think 2.5 acres of land if I remember correctly. Had a manufactured house on it that they put on new in 1997 and they build a huge 4 bay shop. She could have made a killing on it right now.

Good take... thanks for being honest.

I need to save this post for the next time you tell me the best weather is 52 degree drizzle all summer.   I knew you really didn't think that.  😍

I mean, when I’m sweating my skin off in the dog days of summer the idea of chilly drizzle is borderline orgasmic. So I do envy places that can experience such conditions.

But I wouldn’t want that as the default summer weather. The depression would far outweigh the physical comfort for me.

The top pic is in Custer State Park in the Black Hills, I went to that lake in October. That is in Western SD.

Looks like a photo mix up.    I was wondering about the mountains in the background.    There is a similar geological formation just north of Sioux Falls as well.

Yeah, 90% of South Dakota is boring wasteland/ag land, but both the east and west ends have some nice areas. Black Hills area easily takes the cake.

One thing I have to say about this winter is the northern 2/3 of Central and Eastern (especially Central) WA have managed to hold onto the cold for a long time.  Some areas over there have been almost continuously cold since late December.  For example, Wenatchee ended up with a January average of 24.8 which is 4.1 below normal.  Even tonight there are a lot of upper teens to mid 20s over there.  Nice to see that.

As for over here....I still think we are going to score again.
