January 2016 in the PNW

WRF shows hardly anything for all of Western WA through 10AM. That being said, it has done horrible with this event, especially for PDX.

Edit: Looks like multiple people beat me to it.

Should be mentioned the WRF's issue with the system was more with the timing of precip. It handled the warm nose and such pretty well. The element the models struggled with overall was the frontogenesis this morning which gave us the "surprise" snow.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

That deformation band is really teasing Jim, isn't it?

Sure is.

I'm pretty confident this area will see pretty hefty precip though based on recent model trends.  It undoubtedly appears the operationals have a better handle on this than the WRF.  I guess we'll know for sure tomorrow.

Another GFS run with a big snowstorm.  1290 thickness line drops to Olympia at hour 156.  I'm liking the chances for somwhere from Olympia to Bellingham having some fun next weekend.

Very light snow here.  At least I know it's still cold enough.

It's been an odd pattern and that continues, and kinda gets weirder.

I feel like we are finally getting a break with all of this.  I guess we were due!

Hopefully we can get something with this band tonight, would make me feel less bad about missing a possible event next weekend.

Bummer. I was really hoping the packers would win so that the Seahawks would get a free win vs Redskins.

Eh.

Redskins are 9-7 and have won 4 in a row and 6 of 8. We should be fine against Minnesota.

Deformation band is moving at an absolute snails pace. Wish we could get a report from the middle of that. If it's all snow and it stays this stationary, somebody's gonna get 6" tonight into tomorrow morning.

Everett Snowfall (510 feet elevation)

Snow since February 2019: 91"

2023-24: 6"

2022-23: 17.5"

2020-21: 14.5”

2019-20: 10.5"

2018-19: 24.75"

Someone on twitter  tweeted heavy snow just east of DT Chehalis
