What is a WHEM wavetrain? I Googled "WHEM wavetrain" and the only result was one post you made on this forum.

WHEM = Western Hemisphere. In reference to the wave train across the WHEM subtropical domain.

Does it have to do Rossby waves? (I'm new to all this stuff)

Yes, both the rossby and gravity wave components make up the progression of the wave train.

When does most of this fall?

Really spread out from Friday through Sunday... and then a big snow event for Portland next week.

This the next 72 hours after the map above.   No double counting.    Monday - Thursday of next week.

Totally insane to see all three models change so dramatically on just one run.  You can easily the detail that makes the progression so much better also.  MJO may save our butts!

The euro means business.

The GFS  and GEM for comparison

The GEM is a bit slower with the cold air, but all the major models show a pretty attractive 500mb pattern.

Amazing, that's just the overrun, doesn't even include the cold low the ECMWF has slipping down from the north on Sunday.

Nevermind, didn't notice that's not up to hour 120, it's the past 120 hours. Still a very impressive turn around.

In all seriousness if this verifies it looks to be a much better scenario for us to get snow.  The ECMWF in particular looks good.  Another thing to keep in mind is the change is so dramatic in such a short time further improvements are highly possible.

GFS ensembles much improved also.  Amazing we could easily have yet another significant cold snap this winter.

We better not get screwed again.

The progression being shown is much more favorable.  Let's hope it works out.
