ShawniganLake
http://atmos.washington.edu/wrfrt/data/timeindep/images_d3/id_snow24.72.0000.gifWould be a really great way to end the snow season with once in a 50 year storm! Is that really a once in 50 year storm. Similar looking snow storms in April and May are very common occurrence in SW Alberta and the Canadian Rocky mtn foothills. I always assumed they extended south of the border as well.

I always assumed they extended south of the border as well. For the valley floors definitely. Missoula airport only has 1 day of 7" on record, everything else is below 5". I'm sure there is another 7" day that's spread across two in there, but that comes out to about once a 50 year storm, definitely once in a generation storm if some snow records are missing. Obviously it's a once a decade storm for a place like Great falls.

Timmy Supercell
Getting near warning criteria level wind gusts. Sometimes it makes it hard to stand straight outside. Obviously it's a once a decade storm for a place like Great falls. One, 4-8" snowstorm here in Bozeman (which is on the valley floor but at 4,800') is a yearly occurrence in April so definitely not anywhere historic for the region. Missoula does seem to really struggle with spring snowfall due to its relatively low elevation and being west of the divide. With that said, it's still pretty surprising that the greatest single day snowfall record in April is only 7" in Missoula. epiceast
Euro is definitely not on board...Bummer. It didn't seem like it when I looked at the publicly available every 24 hour low positions, but maybe the cutoff was really short lived and would only show up at night, during 00z timeframe sat night. Hopefully 00z euro moves in the right direction and we see a cutoff over the continental divide. Although it does look like there is a small circle over flathead lake on one frame... Too easy for something to go wrong given my clumsy nature. I once had an iffy experience on a chairlift during an Arctic front and haven't tested my luck since. Snowshoe is a** backwards, in that the resort sits on the summit of the mountain, rather than the base, so it's always brutal up there. Rare for gusts to fall below 40mph at any time during the cold season. Fortunately they just installed a new chair on the far lee side of the mountain so we can escape the high winds now if we really desire. The worst was when I got caught in the onset of a blizzard down at Mammoth Mountain, CA. High up on the mountain with sustained 70mph winds blowing perpendicular to the chair. We got smashed into the lift tower a couple times but made it out safely. 1 Quote Bend, ORElevation: 3550' Snow History:Nov: 1"Dec: .5"Jan: 1.9"Feb: 12.7"Mar: 1.0"Total: 17.1" 2016/2017: 70"2015/2016: 34"Average: ~25" 2017/2018 Winter TempsLowest Min: 1F on 2/23Lowest Max: 23F on 12/24, 2/22Lows <32: 87Highs <32:
