NAM 3km 00z from yesterday showed this band forming.

Looks like the CZ is moving north. Strange.

Yeah I think that the upper levels may be cold enough to support some snow. Weird because that band wasn't modelled to hit Victoria, yet it's looking pretty robust.

I wish it would hit here but looks a little south. Malahat will probably be a white out soon. We will have to watch for some convergence if the NE wind meets this SW flow. Could be a burst of very heavy snow with that.

The hail/graupel that fell before it turned to snow really helped out in terms of letting the snow stick. Everything in my neighborhood is white now including the road.

Fell asleep last couple hours and just woke up. Reading the last three pages reminds me of those old war movies when going into combat the radio waves filled with high energy chatter!

I don't expect the CZ to shift south until the low is near the WA/OR border. Looks like the current CZ will move north with another one forming in the middle to late morning.

Yeah it's freezing rain where I am.  I've noticed that oftentimes the freezing rain-snow line sets up at the Helmcken Overpass in View Royal and then I get Freezing Rain and the other side of the gorge gets rain.   Don't understand why but it's pretty cool.

If the onshore flow could slow down even a little, the orographics will be less influential and the valley could see bigger totals.

HIO has recorded just .03 in total precip the entire day so far. Brutal rain shadow.

February 1917 might be the best analog for this. Really rare to see this distribution even in midwinter.

When I went out to get more firewood it was snowing lightly...Maybe a bit of rain still mixed in.

Things seem to be unfolding right on schedule to me. After 06z all the models showed the cold air just booking it south.

 

I think the very low dp winds blowing off the ocean is the big surprise.  That eliminates any chances for rain.  That will also make it hard for any areas having precip tomorrow to be much above freezing.

big flakes coming down and everything is covered. I'd say 2-3" accumulation already.

Looking at the ECMWF ensemble 500bm anomaly map I see why the cold keeps getting extended.  A PV lobe breaks off and ends up over Sask.  That wasn't shown before.  The EPS also indicates the blocking will become more amplified again just after day 10 setting up another blast opportunity.  Sit back and enjoy the ride!

I just drove home from a friends in Juanita and it was 43 there. Got to I5 interchange and it dropped to 36 then when I passed the 99 interchange it dropped to 33. It is 32 here in Harbour Pointe with heavy graupel mixed with real snow. Crazy change in a 10 mile drive.
