November 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

But everywhere you stated is in "our region". To each their own I guess.

Yep.

Many times we have included all of ID and western MT when talking about regionally cold or warm seasons in the PNW. Phil and Jared have done this many times when making a "regional" point they want to make at the time. I was told many times that the summer of 2016 was cold across the PNW "region" which at that time included places like Boise and Missoula.

Jesse feels surrounded by drought. We are definitely not surrounded by drought up here... its something we hear about happening down south. Like we hear about CA drought all the time as well.

It will pass. Texas and Georgia were in catastrophic drought a few years back... now its normal there again.

Rain is definitely busting here in Portland, I doubt we will hit expected totals.

The fv3-gfs shows an interesting setup this weekend. It appears to show snow down to the lowest levels in nw Oregon and sw wa. A low moves in from the west and I’m guessing the lack of S wind and an offshore component are good enough for snow!

Excellent guess!

I’ll be sure to remind you of the impressively stoic perspective you have regarding historic regional drought next time we see a period of slightly above average rainfall in the warm season.

Been raining steadily for awhile here. Seems on track for an inch or so.

Maybe I'm looking at the radar wrong.

I was thinking the other day. You’ve got to be close to 50 years old now. You were only 6-8 years older than I am now when I first joined this forum. Hard to believe...

Time goes by. The 80s are now the equivalent of what the 60s were when we were young. It's been 10 years since December 2008.

Looking at the radar, definitely some shadowing going on in the valley. When I looked at the radar earlier I thought a big break in the rain was coming, but it keeps filling in. Only 0.20" so far.

Hard to believe the June t'storm outbreak was almost a full decade ago. I can still feel the excitement of tracking those storms and looking at those skies through my veins like it was sooner than that. :P

The Moon landing is older now than the Wright Brothers' first flight was when we went to the moon.

And the kindergarten class I first worked with my senior year of high school are in high school themselves now. Crazy.

00Z ECMWF is pretty much dry up here from Thursday through almost the end of the run (days 3-9). Weak system comes through on the morning of day 10.

It also shows a very weak system sliding through Oregon on Friday and afternoon and evening... otherwise the same down there.

Total snow over the next 10 days:

ecmwf-tsnow-washington-41.png

I actually went through each 6-hour period trying to find that dusting of snow in Portland and it does not show up on any frame yet its there on the 10-day total.

Interesting. But you know how skeptical I was of the snow it showed for Pullman last week and we all know how that turned out!

00z ensembles really weren’t that bad.

No, they are actually quite decent. Our expectations are probably a bit high right now. What we are going to see coming up will be decent. Really no reason for anyone to worry.

My expectations are probably the lowest they’ve been for awhile right now, but that’s kind of a good thing. You enjoy the little stuff more, like tonight’s seasonable front.

You all can thank me now, I am having surgery on my back on 12/6, guarenteed goodies of the winter weather variety will occur shortly after that day while I am recovering and cannot enjoy it myself!!

I hope all goes well.

I had my surgery in May! Mine was to re-attach my Achilles tendon. PT said I am now okay to jump around in the snow. Must mean something! Although they say I am getting too old now to really jump around like I used too so maybe not as much snow:(. Maybe my age is tied to global warming...

That’s a b*tch. How did you rupture it?
