November 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Just over 1.5” here today. Should be able to get over 2” on the day. SEA somehow not even to an inch yet while everyone else is well over. I’ll have to look up the record rain for today for SEA.

1.34 in 2009.

Ironically... SEA ended up breaking that record yesterday in the last couple hours of the day.

The new daily record for 11/26 is now 1.42 inches set in 2018.    :)

SEA is also up to .51 since midnight so approaching 2 inches for this storm now.    And now up to 3.74 inches for the month which is within less than 2 inches of normal.     Making it more respectable!

Not much orgographic enhancement out here in this set up... just 1.86 inches for the storm so far.

Pretty wet overnight. 1.01" since midnight. Up to a paltry 4.50" on the month. Less than half of average.

The usual N/S gradient these days:  here it was 0.61" since midnight, and 2.04" for November, which is 28% of normal for EUG.  Will probably end up at about 40% of normal by month's end.

Yes, Virginia (and Washington), there is a drought in Oregon.

Picked up another 0.20" in the past 45 minutes. Things have tapered off now though.

KUIL is now almost to 16 inches of rain on the month... which is over 2.5 inches above normal.

You know its an impressive system when places on the Olympic Peninsula and the WA coast more than doubled their daily rainfall records in late November!

A continuation of the theme of very focused heavy rainfall events and distinct dry periods.    :)

It was a pretty good rainstorm up here. I would have assumed higher daily records on the coast this time of year.

In BC and Washington, more of the former. In Oregon and NorCal, more of the latter.

Thankful for what fell overnight though. It makes a difference. What is probably more important is building a snow pack and hopefully having a wet spring.

Not quite, 1969 is only 49 years ago and the flight at Kitty Hawk was in 1903.

Oops. I misremembered. It was space travel that is older now than the Wright Brothers' flight was when we first went to space.

Yeah Canadian is looking decent.  I think widespread highs of  40-42  and lows of 27-29 are a good bet with that.

12Z GEM does not offer much hope for mountain snow even at day 10... the pattern at 240 hours is not even close to being good.

We could see some advisory snow totals in the south cascades Saturday.

And then we have this...

921 AM PST Tue Nov 27 2018

...SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS WITH POTENTIAL FOR FUNNEL CLOUDS...

Showers with scattered thunderstorms will spread across southwest

Washington and northwest Oregon today. Some of these will produce

heavy downpours and brief gusty winds.

We are monitoring the potential for funnel clouds this afternoon

as this weather pattern has produced funnel clouds in the past.

Any funnel cloud could touch down as a brief tornado. If you see

a funnel cloud, move indoors to safety, then contact local law

enforcement or the National Weather Service in Portland.

They shouldn't be.

Yes they should.

About 90% of the kids born in 2003 have now turned 15.    I know my sons applied for their permit on their 15th birthday.  :)

Yep that seems to be more of the norm now. Back in my day (1992) everyone I knew took their driving test either on their birthday or the week of. I took mine in the snow!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I have not seen that phenomenon around here.    It seems like every kid got their license right on their 16th birthday... like they were at the DMV on that day.    And each one was excitedly announced to us by our kids.

By age , yes they can get their permits. What I meant was, they shouldn't be driving, they are idiots behind the wheel at that age, I see it everyday when I pick up my daughter from school.

But definitely something a little different than we have had of late.

Not that it matters because its the GEM... but the pattern at 240 hours is actually not that different than what we have seen lately.
