June 2019 Weather Discussion in the PNW

Recommended Posts

On the other hand... we usually have 9 months a year when that "soak in the hot tub" can warm you up. Something different the other 3 months is nice.

On the other hand, it's not actually that cold 9 months of the year. 60+ temps are normal from late April through early October - 5.5 to 6 months of the year.

I have come to the conclusion that BBQ’ing east of the cascades in dry warm 88 degree weather is much more fun than 58 degree dark cloudy conditions over here currently.

.14” on the day.

It's currently 56 degrees with light rain in Chelan.

56 here as well and mostly cloudy here and breezy SW winds. Had some sprinkles this evening but didn’t amount to anything.

The morning of 12/29/96...a pic I stumbled on this evening while going through a box. Sure was a memorable November and December!

Wish I could have seen the winters back in the day. My grandparents on both sides have good memories of all the weather events going back to the early 50s. This winter was pretty cool though there was literally snow almost covering the fire hydrants in Tacoma which I’ve never ever seen.

Scary stuff, turns out the mother is in my wife's friend circle; can't imagine how the family feels right now.

I heard another student was injured as well, hopefully they are okay.

Threatened to rain for a moment this afternoon but it didn’t last long. 71F for a high. Storm total of 0.01”.

very sad and unfortunate but glad the other student made it out alive. Just have to always be cautious even a 35-40mph wind gust can take out a weakened tree or branches and hurt you just always be careful when the winds pick up around trees.

Too bad the trough next week is being watered down so much. Or maybe I should say dried down.

I thought the ECMWF looked weaker on the 500mb maps... but it was actually the wettest run yet down there.

And suffice to say... Canadian smoke should not be a problem for quite awhile.

Definitely the least active start to the fire season in a few years. Hopefully we can keep it going into July.

You might enjoy the summers in Utqiagvik, Alaska. Highs usually 40s to low 50s and they average about an inch of rain July and August. Only concern is that's not quite rainy enough for you.

Maybe I’ll just move to Southern California. Sounds like one of the most gloomy and depressing places on earth based on your daily b*tching.

Yes I’m sure those amounts will be scaled back in future runs.

Well, this year has been unusual with the coldest February and May in decades, more June Gloom than normal and rain on the Summer Solstice. In fact, almost all of May and some days in June have been cooler and cloudier here than over there in the PNW. So I can understand you are disappointed and would have preferred it down here rather than up there, at least this year.

Visited Hart Mountain Antelope Refuge today. Didn't see any antelope, but lots of wildflowers. Blustery winds made photographing them a challenge. Perfect week to be on the east side -- everything so green! 48 degrees at Willamette Pass at 2 p.m. on the day before the summer solstice. Now if Eugene could only score some rain next week.

Beautiful pictures. Looks like an awesome place to visit. I'll have to make a road trip down there this summer.

You’re probably right.

Yes, unfortunately.

We were planning to make a trip to Steens Mountain this weekend, but I was surprised to see that the road to the summit is still blocked by snow. It would be our first time there, so may wait until later in July when it melts out so we can get the whole experience. I was surprised to see that, though. Has definitely been a different world on the east side this year.

56 and mostly cloudy this morning. I know this weather pattern isn’t everyone’s preferred weather but I’ve been enjoying the last week or so of cooler days and looks to go on the next week or so. Has been somewhat dry here locally but I’ll take this over June 2015.

Can't believe you'd prefer normal-ish June weather to the hottest one on record.

DON'T YOU CHERISH SUMMER?!?!?

To prove that SEA's numbers are 100% legit. Warmest anomalies in the region be damned, other stations in the area are close in temperature.

You are in a surly mood today!

Its just to provide context... or some indication of how far off SEA is in reality since there are 2 other official stations very close.    I am guessing SEA runs 15-20 degrees too warm usually.   ;)

12z GFS trended a notch wetter for next week. Very nice to see.

Too bad it’s not going to happen. It’s dry season and the rain shown is all drizzle.

I would personally be extremely surprised if either the PDX or Hillsboro stations record over half an inch of rain from now until the month’s end.

Not surprising the road to the summit is still blocked. The summit is great, but really not necessary to have a great experience down there. But makes sense. If you can go later not a bad idea. We'll be doing the Hart Mtn, Steens thing in August this year. For a long time the NF John Day/Strawberry Mountains were kind of my annual trip, but that's switching to the high desert at least for now.

NF John Day and the Strawberries are still on our list. Have passed through there but have never explored too much.
