June 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Sunday is wet and cold day for western WA... it shows upper 50s to near 60 in Seattle which probably means 62 or 63.

But the good news (for the "heat misers") is that the models are trending much faster with the ULL in general and its already nice again by Monday.

Any proof backing up the “more significant than usual” claim? Sounds a little shaky/subjective.

By far, the most notable aspect of the last several warm seasons has been the unusual REGIONAL warmth and dryness. That goes for the whole area covered by this sub forum, whether you’re talking north and east of Seattle or south and west of Portland.

I admit it’s mostly anecdotal, but there have been many times where we’re socked in with clouds / drizzle when OR posters have talked about it being a pleasant, partly cloudy day down there. Some rain and drought maps posted have backed that up. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for WA posters to root for warm, sunny weekends when those have been hard to come by recently, just like I don’t think it’s unreasonable for OR posters to be concerned about drought.

I've been up since 6:00am, this morning has a bit more of a July feel to it. Summer is definitely here. In 2 hours it jumped 18 degrees, no wonder it didn't feel like a June morning!

And I see some convective chances Tue/Wed!

Low of 48 this morning in Battle Ground.  Amazing deep blue skies as well.  These are my favorite type of days.

Also a completely cloudless sunrise here. Not even cirrus or jet trails.

My sons are going full summer today since they both have the day off and its beautiful... boat is out of garage and they are prepping for a party tonight.   Then they are taking the boat out on Lake Sammamish this afternoon before the party.

At least sunshine gets them up before noon.

COVID party! Might as well get it over with now. Are you partaking?

I almost decided to call it a day and go jetsking...Nice day!

The group of kids coming tonight has been hanging out together for weeks.   You can't keep kids that age isolated in the summer.   Not going to happen.

They are not coming in the house though for multiple reasons.    And I will not be down there when its happening.

I’ve kind of been doing the same recently...just keeping a small circle of family and friends that I see and avoiding everyone else for the most part. All you can really do at this point...and wear a mask in the grocery store of course. Hope your kids have fun...perfect weather for it!

Our kids and our neighbor kids have been hanging out as well, like you say you cannot isolate kids. I however love isolation haha!

Back to weather...A day like today would be lovely for the next two weeks straight!

Up to 67.

12Z ECMWF says the chilly weather and rain returns right on cue on Saturday and Sunday looks pretty nasty for summer.

12Z EPS is about the same in the long range... still looks fairly quiet for next week and the holiday weekend.   Control run agrees as well.

For Seattle Tim, not sure. But in Oregon it's usually summer before the fireworks

Absolutely beautiful outside in Everett. 70º and only a whiff of cloud in the sky. Tonight is going to be great for some astronomy and an outside chance at some noctilucent clouds.

Are those theoretically more noticeable at higher elevations? I should keep an eye out. I haven't seen them yet in my life.

Locals in K-Falls rarely observe Northern Lights (at this latitude!) but it doesn't cover much of the sky.

Yeah, I agree. Summers here in the PNW west of the Cascades as a whole are beautiful.

The Willamette Valley, aside from the allergies, is about the most pleasant place to be weather-wise on all of planet Earth from late Jun-mid Sept.

Fudge in a few more weeks window if you tolerate warm rains. I love some Octobers like in 2009.

Nice bit of trolling going on here, conveniently the storms will go around my town within a 25 mile radius.

But I respect Medford NWS, supposedly they have a much higher accuracy for these things than Portland.
