June (July) 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

When it feels like November in July... people are going to complain. Regardless of what happened in past years or if its perfectly normal to have periods like this in the summer. Its been downright miserable and summer is short enough up here. It is what it is. Complaining does not change it but its a way of venting.

You don’t have to live there.

Seems like I get quite a few more days with atleast some sunshine than the folks north and east of Seattle. Clears out a lot easier here than closer to the mountains. The past couple days have been a gloom fest most places but there’s actually been a bit of sun during the afternoon hours here the past couple days.

Tacoma WA elevation 300’

Monthly rainfall-3.56”

Warm season rainfall-11.14”

Max temp-88

+85 highs-2

+90 highs-0

No "November in July" down here! The weather's been just about perfect. Sunny days with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. I never worry about it being too cold here in the summer. The heat always comes! I just enjoy these coolish days when they happen. They're far too rare!

I would feel the same way if I lived down there.

Cliff mass actually wrote something about why it clears out closer to the sound easier in the warm season. Talks about lake chelan too.

Average or a little above.

What’s ur call???

Haven't given it much thought, but I'll go with average to a little below. At OLM, of course.

July seems like the month most likely to have a big heat spike and be warmest relative to average. Followed by September.

A forum for the end of the world.

I don’t see why people can’t just roll with some coolish early summer weather, especially considering the last several years of unprecedented blowtorches. Obviously things were going to flip back a little at some point. But it’s unlikely we see a coolish stretch of years that will ever rival the stretch of warm seasons we have seen recently, in terms of anomalousness. In fact I would still say there’s a better than bad chance this summer as a whole ends up warmer than average, despite all the belllyaching. Seems really irrational.

Guess I just shouldn’t let it bother me.

It is quite rational and yes, you shouldn't let it bother you.

Some sunbreaks here now. 64 degrees.

12z Euro looked solidly cool the next 7-10 days. Gotta think something will give at some point. I’m just not used to seeing this much troughing on the models heading into mid-July.

Looked up "sun" on Wikipedia... that sounds nice. Might have to drive down there and check it out.

SEA is all the way up to 60 and cloudy with a stiff SW breeze at 1 p.m. on this July afternoon. No doubt UHI influenced to be that warm.

There have been quite a few years PDX gets heat in early September, 90's even.

And over on the east sides it can be one of our driest months of the year if there is no convection (Sep can be hit-and-miss for t'storms here).

Yeah, though normally I'm pretty much done with warm/hot weather by Labor Day. I think it has to do with going back to school when I was younger. I'm in Winter mode by mid September already.

I wouldn't mind a September like 2010. I wonder how much of that rain we got in K-Falls. It wasn't a cold month either but D**n it poured in Hillsboro.
