Broken clouds is a good description.   But decently warm and I can't imagine a sweatshirt would be comfortable.

Talk about bad timing and placement of a fairly deep trough. Mixing is pretty much maximized tomorrow afternoon, and come Tuesday, large scale descent is already well underway ahead of the resurging 4CH. Turns what could have been a couple of decent marine layer days into dead average for mid July 1951-2000 normals, then right back into another warm spell.

From an optimistic lens, tomorrow and Tuesday do have decent underperformance potential written on them, especially Tuesday, as sfc pressure drops substantially in the intermountain west under that building high, encouraging northerlies to track down the Sound... That is often a big temperature inhibitor in the dead of summer, which can be overlooked by global-scale guidance, especially the mixing-happy GFS.

The next cooldown after tomorrow and Tuesday will have to wait until at least Sunday, and even that looks like a carbon copy of Tuesday but with less favorable gradients for northerly influence. And who even knows if that will even happen, given that it's a whole week out. Until then, Wed-Sat will roast, with highs in the Sound generally hovering between 82-92. Looks like my birthday on the 21st will be a hot one this year.

Late July into August has some promise. The 12z EPS was pretty adamant on the GOA trough parked offshore finally prograding into the PNW sometime around D10-12, and sticking around for some undetermined amount of time.

Phil was hyping the trough tomorrow a full 2 weeks ago as if it would be something that would stick around.     PNW oasis blah blah blah.   😁

Actually the PNW will always be a summer oasis compared to his weather.

The weather has been favourable to all the plants this year... at least in my garden.  Tomatoes and other veggies/fruits/berries are doing really well.  Looking forward to harvesting the cherry tomatoes. Also growing peppers this year.  On the flower side of things, it's an all out beauty fest out there this year.

I can see some clouds forming over the mountains and decided to put the patio cushions up.    Probably just jinxed the rain now.

In went on a walk with my roommate and we both saw a fire off to the NE, maybe in the North Cascades? Basically a big ball of smoke. Hopefully that's just a controlled burn, but it was big so I'd doubt it. Nothing is showing up on https://www.dnr.wa.gov/Wildfires so I'm pretty stumped.

I prefer dewpoints below 60.    Is that what they have there?

And if you and your family willingly decides to spend August in a swamp in Georgia then you get what you get.  👍

Been going every year since I was 4 years old. Family tradition! Weather is brutal, but it’s paradise (and there’s either a stiff sea breeze or thunderstorm every afternoon).

We basically lay on the beach all day getting plastered, then binge on southern comfort food and drink more. Hair of the dog for 2 weeks straight. 😂

Looking to the north Cascades right now and I don't see any smoke.  I will look into this and hopefully get an answer for ya. :)

The PNW is missing out on what is shaping up to be a very tame Summer across the country. It's what you'd expect under a budding El Niño, but it still sucks. Wouldn't have minded just a -1F or -2F on the month of July, even relative to the new 1991-2020 normals. Denver got a -4F for June and is currently running a -3.5F on July with another cooldown coming this Thursday.

It is the Mountain Loop fire possibly.  It was spotted today for the first time at 4:25pm.  It has burned 7 acres so far.  It is between Robe and Granite Falls.  It is located right off the highway, so likely human-caused.  Will hopefully be put out soon, but no word on crews headed there yet.

I feel like the ridiculously unhealthy fried cooking is ironically really helpful for all that drinking. I had like four big glasses of wine Friday night on an empty stomach. I do not drink hardly, ever. Saturday was hell.

That absolutely has to be it. The placement and size both match. Thanks for getting back to me on that, I was very curious!

I’m just glad we’re leaving the La Niña behind.

Might be awhile before we get another bonafide La Niña as well. Of the post-WWII 3+ year -Niña regimes (98/99-00/01, 73/74-75/76, 54/55-56/57), none saw a moderate or strong niña within 7 years.

Haha, that is what they say. I actually don’t get hangovers (never had one) but everyone around me does, and they would all concur with you on that.

Not related to weather going on here but this is one of the most insane radar loops I have seen. Some sort of outflow boundary triggered storms to pop up out of literally nowhere.

Oh brother…

My sister in law missed her connecting Alaska Airlines flight from ANC-SEA then SEA-IND because of a medical issue with someone in a seat ahead of her. They ran to the gate and had just closed the door. Now they have to wait until tomorrow and they won’t give her a hotel room or comp her flight. She has to pay for it and she will have lost her luggage.

A Boeing 737. If anyone here knows people at Alaska airlines or Boeing and can help her out. Oof man this sucks for her family.

Flight that is arriving still hasn’t cleared Haida Gwaii. At this point I’m gonna hit the bar and get a drink. I don’t care if it costs $25 for a shot of vodka at this point.
