Not impressed with SEA airport so far. Unfortunately really gross compared to PDX.

What concourse?   My impression is the opposite.  PDX is old and sort of gross and SEA is much more updated and modern.   But there are few places at SEA that aren't updated yet.

Not a big fan of it, either. I wouldn’t call it “gross,” more “crowded” and “poorly run.”

Getting to fly out of YVR these days is a win.

It's called clown range for a reason.

There’s these drops of water starting to fall from the sky. I think there’s s special weather word for this, but it’s been so long since I’ve had to use that that I can’t recall what it is.

Stop running through my sprinkler and get off my lawn!

Gate A7. Floor is slippery with poor traction and the floors are unclean. I’d rather have a mostly fully-carpeted terminal. Restrooms are about the same.

PDX has really nice carpet and obviously not as busy.

VYR is very nice but I had to pick my son up at the international arrivals this past week and that was pretty much a sh*tshow.  The whole pick up/drop off area is very claustrophobic.

I would agree SEA is crowded and poorly run, especially the C concourse.

It's been forever since I have done a pick up/drop off at Seattle, but I seem to remember you at least had a little room to maneuver.

If you find the Seattle terminal unacceptably dirty, be glad it does not have a carpet in the concourse. It is a lot easier to keep a hard floor clean.

With a lot more air traffic it makes sense. Staff shortages at both Anchorage and Seattle airports seem to have caused delays. I’m guessing that’s probly the case most everywhere anymore.

Carpet in public places inherently gross.

In the bathrooms for sure. In the south a lot of bathrooms are carpeted and it’s a big hassle to clean.

I once looked at a rental with a carpeted kitchen (I kid you not). Hard pass.

My current place has exactly zero carpeting, which is what I prefer.

Diabetic?

Me? Hell no, I’d never let my health decline to that point.

Awhile ago I eliminated all high sugar/carb foods from my diet, and I’ve never felt better. Lost weight without trying and increased my energy levels substantially, even more than when I was a teenager.

I’m telling you man, refined sugars are poison. Stop eating them and you’ll go through literal withdrawal. 😂

And now this flight delayed by an hour. Fuck this shitt.

Gonna drive for our trips from now on.

I had an awful time flying back from CO Springs. Can empathize with you 100%.

CO Springs to DEN ended up delayed by ~ 7hrs, then DEN to IAD was delayed by 4hrs, so ended up landing at 9AM EDT as opposed to 10PM the previous night.

Got zero sleep and then had to drive home from IAD in a traffic jam. So much fun.

I meant Type 1, juvenile. I've know several type 1 diabetics, and they don't get hangovers, so that's why I asked if that was the case with you.

100% agree that high sugar/carb diet is the worst, and the primary reason our country is so fat.

Not related to weather going on here but this is one of the most insane radar loops I have seen. Some sort of outflow boundary triggered storms to pop up out of literally nowhere.

Can actually see the boundary collision there. Beautiful. Most summer storms here arise the same way, albeit usually with less intense upper level flow. One storm pops up somewhere, usually either over higher terrain or near the bay/river breeze front, lays down an outflow boundary, which triggers new storms in the unstable air.

When boundaries collide either with other outflow boundaries or sea/bay/river breeze boundaries, the resulting storms are much more intense, often severe.

Exceptions are the big severe/synoptically forced storms, such as MCS’s/squall lines or warm sector supercells. Those are the really fun ones, but not nearly as common.

Ah, gotcha. Thankfully that doesn’t run in my family.

was wanting some rain to knock down all the dust.

I was so happy to see it pouring this morning, the dust was getting bad along with of course everything getting so tinder dry.

I think Sea-Tac is great but you gotta know the hacks to get through that airport. Traffic flows much better than pre-pandemic but there's only so much they can do with having everyone drop off at a single terminal. If it's really bad you can drop off at the light rail station, and call an Uber there for like half the price of the official spot in the airport.

Anyway, no rain as expected in the Seattle area, the southerlies were too strong to get the drizzle convergence. I'm glad MossMan got something. The dry streak chugs on...

Snowing in Johannesburg South Africa today.

It snowed there a week ago too, for the first time in 12 years. Amazing winter by their standards. 🥳

Just saved an old man’s life in the PDX airport. He fell over backwards on the escalator going up and was about to fall under. I threw my bag off, jumped over the railing and pulled him up at the last second.

What a day.

Cost and bad luck. Was using points for a free flight, so wanted to take advantage of that. Delay was supposed to be short, but kept getting extended.

Eventually said eff it and planned to cancel and rent a car, but realized I didn’t purchase travel insurance.

United Airlines refunded me half of the price for DEN—>IAD flight, so decided to wait it out and save $300.

Yeah, they had a legit cold snap with snow last week and a 47/29 day, but they were 68/40 yesterday. I'm guessing someone got the dates mixed up.

Ah, yeah that makes more sense.
