The last powerless Christmas (or Eve can’t remember now) for me was 2005

We had an ice storm related power outage last year on Christmas Eve.    That week leading up to Christmas was pretty wild.    Windstorm, snowstorm, and then ice storm.

This was Christmas Eve morning... could not walk on the driveway.  The most slippery surface possible.  Never seen anything like it.

We had a foot of snow fall on Christmas eve /day in 08. Only time I've ever woken up with no power on Christmas. Was worth it and my parents had a generator so we still got to enjoy Christmas lights buried under the fresh snow.

The most ice I have ever seen up here which wasn’t much but still fun on 12/23 of last year!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Just checked and my pic was actually the afternoon of 12/23.   Power was out at the time if I remember correctly.

The GFS ensemble control still shows an off the charts SSW by the end of the month. Doubt it will verify at that intensity though. That said, it's still fun to look at for entertainment purposes.gfs-ensemble-extended-all-c00-nhemi-t10_anom-3808000.thumb.png.cf20c2d286179c63e1f01bff27dc1357.png

Going to be an epic January!

I would have never thought I'd see this masterpiece of a clip on the weather forums but here we are.

I just got home. East wind is quite breezy. Did anyone want a 00z GFS, ECMWF re-cap? If not, that's fine with me honestly.

6z GFS in 2 hours 3 minutes

Of course, let's have the recap pls!

1994 keeps popping up w/ late December dates.

That pattern was ripe for bombing a southern wave just as this upcoming period is. Result in 1994 was a subtropical-storm-nor’easter that did a fujiwara dance w/ a training cyclone, flinging it back in towards the coast.

True color satellite image shows the entire east side of the Cascades in WA and OR is socked in with low clouds from the crest eastward.   The fog on the west side must be quite shallow because it doesn't show up to well here.     And running the loop you can see the low clouds moving west on this side of the mountains through the Chehalis Gap and the Strait.

This morning is the first time in my life I’ve seen frost form on the trees. Almost looked like snow!

I’m sure in the PNW it’s a weekly thing, but it’s a completely new vibe for me. ❄️
