You really think nothing interesting will happen in Spokane from now through April?    I bet it snows again.

sure, it's supposed to do that.  I just don't see anything anomalous on the horizon other than maybe warmth and ARs

maybe a windstorm?

Since this winter seems to be a write-off, here are a couple of interesting cold winter videos I came across.

@MR.SNOWMIZER might appreciate this other one.  I love how they have to wait for the oil to turn back into a liquid…

Temperature at BLI just shot up 9˚F (from 52 to 61) in 5 minutes as the wind shifted to the SE and downsloping kicked in.

That is pretty cool... definitely a Bellingham specialty with a downslope SE wind.

Have been working a lot up on Highway 18 recently has been quite wet with lots of water to treat. Was in the mid 60s this afternoon up there! Heard frogs croaking and even some bees flying around. Really good sunrise on a summer morning in January.

Lakefront property!

We drove through there on Saturday... that project is going to go forever.

Lol yeah, more money and hours for me I guess. I don’t have anything to do with the construction just treat all the water collected on the site! I am up there almost every day and I can tell you most of the guys “working” up there on those jobsites are very good at looking busy but doin nothing. Just milking the government job hours.

All the people who live at PDX are thankful their home wasn't destroyed by a couple extra degrees of temperature.    All infrastructure remains intact and residents are safe.   Whew!   😁

Honestly I really don't get the people who are happy that it wasn't as warm as forecast today.  I understand wanting it to be colder in the mountains that way the snowpack gets preserved, but the mountains seemed to have preformed as forecast today, so there's really nothing to celebrate. If it's already going to be above freezing where you live, why not root for it to get even warmer? I don't think anyone feels "uncomfortable" in mid/upper 60s, I know I loved it getting to 67 here today!

I'm sticking with my call on the the Nino crashing pretty hard.  It should begin with a sudden cooling in Nino 1+2 due to upwelling along the Coast of South America in couple of weeks or maybe less.

El Niño is here to stay through the rest of winter and spring.

Any cooling will likely be focused in niño-3.

Westerlies will be cranking for at least the next couple of weeks. And will persist the longest in niño 1-2. Any eventual cooling would likely be west of there.

I guess we had a debate about which state was better recently? I feel like it’s really hard to compare both of them. They’re both amazing in different ways and I don’t think either state in particular is better than the other.

I agree with you on that. In my personal opinion, Washington is a more scenic and a better state for my hobbies, climbing, hiking, skiing, and mountaineering, but me and my wife definitely prefer living in oregon. I don't think there are any towns in Washington that I'd rather live in than the sunriver, bend, la pine area. Live here, and visit Washington a couple times a year works perfectly for me.

Today's high at Watson Lake, YT was 50.0˚F.

Today's high at Trout Lake, NWT was 50.5˚F.

Even Northwest Territories and the Yukon couldn’t escape the 50-burgers today.

Northern Canada is just straight up roasting this year,  but but but like it got cold for a week and stuff people on here will say.

Climate is heating up much faster up there, relative to lower latitudes

past the point of no return, imo

Looks like I picked a good area to avoid any winter torch as much as possible given the situation.  Cabin had a 42 33 day. Currently 34. Still chilling considering.  54 at home today so only 8-10 above normal.

SEA could tie a record last set way back before global warming was a thing in 1981.    Probably will fall short tomorrow.    Can't even get to a threshold from 43 years ago.

Northern Canada is supposed to blowtorch in strong niño winters. Especially following a 3-year niña that loaded a crap-ton of heat into the IPWP, releasing it into the atmosphere all at once.

They would’ve roasted no matter what.

Just hit 65F! Warmest January temperature I've recorded beating out 64F from January 26, 2015. It feels quite remarkable out there.

I actually really want to move to the bend area. Of all the places around the PNW central Oregon is my favorite.

Down to 34 already. I always love our dramatic temperature swings here, we're in a really good spot for it. In 4 and a half hours we dropped 30 degrees.

Top tier torching. Beats the cold they had earlier; that did not set an all-time monthly record.

In the realm of absolute anomalies, +33.4 would be really quite something to see at BLI in January (to counteract the -33.4 departure from a couple weeks ago). That would make the average temperature 74.5F which would be warmer than any day last summer in Bellingham.

Sitting outside on the deck in a short sleeved shirt listening to the frogs as it’s still 60 degrees. The wind hitting my face is warm and it smells like spring.
62/52 on the day.
Incredible!

Agreed. I was really pleased how the Portland metro fared though this event.

Put up a 56/42 day here, so nothing too terribly outlandish. The biggest sky story today was the insanely beautiful sunrise.
