February 2024 Weather in the PNW

Weird how these things work. You would think being a few miles from the water would help you. Places to your west basically on the water got something.

Places a bit farther out, like Clearwood and Lake Lawrence got a few inches. Even the other side of town, where the High School is had a light dusting of slush. We don't really get the east winds in my lil nook, so temp and DP stayed JUST high enough for rain. :(

Did that fall last night or in the last hour or two? Definitely more than we had just a few miles away!

Overnight. I woke up around 2 and we had a dusting of slush. This is what’s left.

35 and raining. My wife and kids will never know what could have been with just a little atmospheric tweaks here and there.
Anyway…Now all eyes can focus on what IS COMING!

Wonder how much the Mizer got…Looks like schools out his way are all closed.

Usually takes a good foot and a half or so to close schools here so I can’t even begin to imagine what he picked up there….

Mark Nelsen did a great job of documenting in real time how the Portland NWS was out to lunch. He appeared offended by their stupidity.

Yep he nailed it, balmy 42 with some sun breaks currently.

0.000" here, pretty much what model consensus was saying. There are some reports of a few flurries just to my south.

39.7˚F. With the low DP’s, would almost certainly be snow if there was the precip to cool things down.

Oh well, scored big last month, so really can’t complain.

It's called clown range for a reason.

That played out close to expectations which is saying something because it was a tricky forecast. There was even some accumulation at the top of the hill here which is around 400 ft.

Yea. Seemed like model’s actually did a pretty good job as long as you didn’t put any stock into the silly 10:1 maps.  A slushy coating for the lucky ones east of Puget sound and up to about 5” or so for the lucky ones like snowmizer.  Euro was pretty close with a couple of days lead time.

Yeah my 1.5 feet back in January shut down our schools as well! (Picture makes look like a lot less…I swear)

But facts are facts and not even a Nino can stop it from snowing in February.  This was a fairly widespread event. All of kitsap has 2-6 and 1-5 Shelton to Olympia and South some and west.

If you mean the Peninsula. So far as the county goes, Bainbridge Island got zilch from what I can see on the highway cams. Always the hardest part of the county to get in on the Hood Canal effect (though sometimes they do).

Many more places got snow besides kitsap

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

Oh, we got snow.  It snowed for hours. It just didn't stick at lower elevations.  I see some areas of 32 on the island but I am at 34.3 and have been all night.  Ces't la vie.  My moods no longer hinge on this.  I live too close to the water.

Light snow all night. Never amounted to anything. A few flakes this morning. Pretty uneventful for folks north of Olympia.

Kitsap peninsula is north of Olympia

275k people live over here.

I saw snow on cars when I took my wife to work.  Some places look to have gotten at least two inches and probably three.

Didn’t see any on the 305 & High School Road webcam. Guess Bainbridge was right on the edge and some parts of the Island scored.
