Gorgeous sunset from Mt Tabor park. Lots of big, downed trees on the north and east side of the park from our ARCTIC WINDS three weeks ago. But honestly the damage wasn’t quite as bad as I feared. I guess the historic shelter took a pretty good hit but that part of the park was cordoned off.
I was intrigued so I looked up the average high and low temperatures across WA for August of 1899. Olga's average low of 45F is pretty impressive as it's about 4 degrees colder than anything we've seen in the last 50 years. The fact it's so much colder than every other location on the west side does make me wonder if there was an error with the thermometer at that time or maybe it was just incredible cold winds blowing off the straight.
The Seattle average high for the month was almost 10 d
.70 in the bucket so far today, which brings our 3-day total to just over 1 inch and monthly total up to 2.65 inches. Rain has subsided for now, with mainly gusty winds in place. We'll have to see if the western flank of the low that is currently over central Nebraska can hit my area as it moves to the NE later today, or if it remains over NW Iowa as some models indicate.
I would be good with this. At my soccer game last week, someone commented that the fields felt like it was July.
If we have another summer like last summer in terms of how dry it got (and how hard the fields got) I will probably hang up my cleats. I'm not going to risk another knee injury.
So far this morning, .09" in the rain bucket, and it feels like early spring or late fall out there with a temp of 48. Normally I might gripe about it, but I'll take it as dry as it has been.
We have the Ski to Sea race this Sunday up here in Bellingham, and hopefully we get some decent weather for it. It's my first time participating in about 12 years.
