Gorgeous sunset from Mt Tabor park. Lots of big, downed trees on the north and east side of the park from our ARCTIC WINDS three weeks ago. But honestly the damage wasn’t quite as bad as I feared. I guess the historic shelter took a pretty good hit but that part of the park was cordoned off.
I was intrigued so I looked up the average high and low temperatures across WA for August of 1899. Olga's average low of 45F is pretty impressive as it's about 4 degrees colder than anything we've seen in the last 50 years. The fact it's so much colder than every other location on the west side does make me wonder if there was an error with the thermometer at that time or maybe it was just incredible cold winds blowing off the straight.
The Seattle average high for the month was almost 10 d
That was intense !! Never ever ever experienced that before in my life. It’s still popping off out there but slower right now as the main line has gone through! Tornado off to the east of us. Very possible my cousin caught it in her picture. It definitely looks like one. Just wow, what a storm
Jealous of you all getting rain. Thursday and Today we had almost nothing (.05 on Thur) a Trace today whereas Lewiston had some decent rain with ponding on some of the roads in usual spots. We drove out to Dworshak Reservoir for a hike. This is an Army Corps reservoir which is free to park at. It is near Orofino "The Home of the Maniacs!" Their high school is right next to Idaho's state mental institution. Mascot even looks like a patient and a photo is here: https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2016/feb/04/idaho-house-panel-backs-orofino-maniacs-specialty-/
We decided to turn around about 0.75 or so as the clouds starting looking dark and the trail looked slippery. Still my son and I enjoyed a nice viewpoint of the reservoir on a hillside before turning back. Glad we did because it started raining shortly after we left. Flat Stanley is visiting us from a school in Texas' project. All the other houses are in Texas, OK, or NE so it's nice it got to see the NW and both WA and ID.
Another wet day! Love it! .80" this pm and still raining. Weekend total now 1.7" and incredibly now at 7 inches in April! And there hasnt been a extreme amount of run off or gully washers. Soaking in and saturated!
