You don’t know what the NAO is?

And I’ve linked references to the TNH multiple times. CPC references it as a seasonal/cold season index, but it’s present in some form year round.

https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/data/teledoc/tnh.shtml

Of course I know what NAO stands for, it's actually one of the few I do know. It stands for North American Outflow

We do this dance multiple times a year. Prognostications filled with an alphabet soup of oscillations and indexes serve to build up a level of mystique with your average "Just give me the 10 day" guy but make you look like a ChatGPT hacculiation of a Holiday Inn Express educated Meatyorologist to anyone with an ERA5 dataset partially downloaded.

.62" this morning, with a total of 1.62" since Wednesday.  I ended up cancelling my yard project, and I am glad I did since we got .76" that day.

Hopefully end if this next week will be good for another attempt.

I’m liking the -NAO signal heading into May, though. Many of the post-niño summers have a period of late-spring blocking, offering a final reprieve before hell starts. Hopefully we can take advantage of that opportunity.

Also would be another sign the system state is far-removed from the +TNH state that has dominated the majority of recent summers.

Ridge bridge? Oh, wrong time of year to root for it.

I'm rooting for a huge ridge to be sitting over alaska for most of our Denali climb, May 12th(weather permitting)-the end of the month/start of June. When I did my first Denali expedition back in the early 90s, we got horrible weather for almost the entire 3 week expedition, at one point temperatures were -39F with 80+MPH winds and heavy snow, and we never got a good day of weather to summit Denali, which is why I'm going back with the hope of being successful this time.

I do NOT want to experience horrible weather like that again.

Looks like we might get some snow Monday morning, just need that precip to arrive a couple hours earlier than currently forecast, and we could easily pick up a slushy Inch or two. 41 currently, 46/30 day.

Jealous of you all getting rain. Thursday and Today we had almost nothing (.05 on Thur) a Trace today whereas Lewiston had some decent rain with ponding on some of the roads in usual spots. We drove out to Dworshak Reservoir for a hike. This is an Army Corps reservoir which is free to park at. It is near Orofino "The Home of the Maniacs!" Their high school is right next to Idaho's state mental institution. Mascot even looks like a patient and a photo is here: https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2016/feb/04/idaho-house-panel-backs-orofino-maniacs-specialty-/

We decided to turn around about 0.75 miles in or so as the clouds starting looking dark and the trail looked slippery. Still my son and I enjoyed a nice viewpoint of the reservoir on a hillside before turning back. Glad we did because it started raining shortly after we left. Flat Stanley is visiting us from a school in Texas' project. All the other houses are in Texas, OK, or NE so it's nice it got to see the NW and both WA and ID.

Yes, looks like it was beyond the city limits best I could tell. Tornado was on the ground ( according to the weather service) during the time my cousin got the photo.  Sure does look like one in the photo

SE Asia is dealing with some exceptional summertime heat at the moment. Today was the 6th straight days of triple digits with heat index ranging from 110-115F since I’ve been here. Prolonged activities between 10am until sunset are non-existence. Even the locals are complaining. I’m here for 4 more weeks. 😥

Yeah, as with any 20k+ summit. Although most the time people die, they are likely inexperienced and made a poor decision to keep pushing despite the forecast inclement weather, or one of their group members die because of bad crevasse rescue techniques. But occasionally an experienced mountaineer will get unlucky and die in an Avalanche, there's only so much precaution you can take to avoid that.

Denali(or Mckinley, I personally don't support changing mountains names, but I think Denali is a much better name than McKinley) hasn't become the sh1tshow that everest has yet, but as with any one of the 7 continental summits, there are too many inexperienced people who pay their way to the top. It's pretty crazy what goes on at Mount everest now, it's just a mountain of trash and rich inexperienced tourists.

It's amazing to me the people I hear about who try to climb Everest.

I hiked up South Sister from Green Lakes and Broken Top from Green Lakes, when I was a teenager. That's enough for me. I might do it again when my kids are in their teens.

It's amazing to me the people I hear about who try to climb Everest.

I hiked up South Sister from Green Lakes and Broken Top from Green Lakes, when I was a teenager. That's enough for me. I might do it again when my kids are in their teens.

Did you ever climb St Helens, Andrew?

Surprised you couldn’t make the summit.  Phil did it with -40F and 81+mph winds while he was still recovering from Covid

I was also barefoot, wearing only boxers and a wife beater shirt.
