Front Ranger
Winds are averaging about 14, strongest gust has been 27 here. *yawn* Jim should be happy though. That could change in an instant. I hope for Jim's sake he doesn't get any big gusts (he's obviously really dreading another cleanup), but you guys still have several hours to get through. 1 Quote A forum for the end of the world. bainbridgekid
that is gusts or sustained speed?Gusts. 1 knot equals 1.15 mph so add 1.5 mph for every 10 knots of windspeed. MossMan
Wild night here, when the wind first started here a couple of hrs ago our power immediately went out. Happened right as we were leaving for my company Christmas party. Made it through the party in Stanwood, and as we are driving through town everything goes dark! That was cool to see! Then we arrived home about 15min ago, and we have power but had one casualty...my BBQ That thing has been in the same spot for 6yrs and I have never had this happen!! And man right now it is rocking and rolling outside! My dogs are not happy campers at all. wx_statman
Strongest gust for PDX since March 1971?!? Incredibly overachieving storm.I see it has already been mentioned, but PDX had an instant gust to 74 mph in December 1995. Its too bad the NWS was using 5 second averages as the "gust" in that era, which is why 62 mph got locked in as the peak "gust". That was definitely the more significant and damaging windstorm. PDX also gusted to 69 mph in November 1981. I think the NWS overlooked that one.
