That’s absolutely wild considering the official station has had 3.54”. Almost three times the amount and you’re how far away? You don’t have to lie to chill, brah. I would have no problem with you whatsoever if it wasn’t for this kind of blatant dishonesty.

Please stop telling people I’m being dishonest. This is what has been observed here. It is what it is.

Your perception of how I personally feel about my observations seems more like a you problem than anything else.

On top of the roof. Andrew set it up because if I get on a ladder I could fall off the house when I have a seizure...which happens all the time.

isn't the GEM more garbage than the GFS?

 serious question

Sometimes it ends up being right when it goes against the GFS and ECMWF.  In Nov 2010 it was the coldest model and it ended up being right for instance.  Overall I think it's skill is a bit lower though.

@TigerWoodsLibido my man we love you. This isn’t a shot at you or Andrew and @MR.SNOWMIZER and it DEFINITELY isn’t a dig about your disability. It does seem possible there is an issue with the way your station is set up though. And if that IS the case and it consistently underplays precip, it may be contributing to your frustration with your climate. Do you usually run way lower than EUG’s numbers or is that an anomaly this month?

I'd love for someone to come hang out here. Andrew does sometimes and they're some of the most positive experiences. I can't drive so I can rarely leave the house and experience the variability for myself. Would sure be nice, but those days are gone.

But, I think there's a better than 50% chance we do indeed move to Indiana.

I think he could have some build up of debris or gunk in his rain gauge.  I've had to clean mine a few times in the past.  That's why I just go with the analog gauge for my official records.

We usually have less rain because of shadowing. Precip rates can often be less too. Which is why the SW valley does well in CAD setups as opposed to here, it's just important to realize that it's not uniform down (upriver) this way. The SE valley tends to share a profile more like that of the Umpqua Basin due to the marine air spillover and double downsloping off of the Kalapuyas and Pisgah.

It's not a shitty location, it just is what it is. I don't hate it here but I would enjoy moving to a location that's more prone to snow and esp Arctic cold.

Could be your area has seen less rain or possible the station needs cleaning or calibration. My Davis station recorded 90” of rain the other day as some moisture got into the electrical (I think).

Please stop telling people I’m being dishonest. This is what has been observed here. It is what it is.

Your perception of how I personally feel about my observations seems more like a you problem than anything else.

Jesse being an A-hole aside, I think my parents have the same or at least a very similar setup that I helped my dad put up back around 2015 or so. He made some comments that the rain gauge never seemed to work properly. The temp readings were pretty good though thanks to the solar-powered aspirator.

That could so easily go our way, but it's a very iffy proposition.  We have another big MJO wave going now so the amplified regime will likely continue and the block will reinvent itself numerous times.  Some of those configurations will probably favor a cold West.

On mine the electrical stuff did go haywire once and it often gets a scum buildup from pollen, dust, mildew, etc.

Here in South Lake Tahoe we can have extreme differences in precip over short distances depending on wind direction. I officially received 14" of snow while people less than 5 miles away at the same elevation had 26"

Truth be known an old fashioned analog rain gauge is the best bet for accurate readings unless you have something that costs a fortune like the official commercial or government stations use.  The electronic gauges are nice if you want to watch the rain total pile up without having to go outside to check the gauge all the time.

I've noticed the temp is accurate for sure. Even looking as if it would be overexposed, it seems to line up with the other stations.

Truth be known an old fashioned analog rain gauge is the best bet for accurate readings unless you have something that costs a fortune like the official commercial or government stations use.  The electronic gauges are nice if you want to watch the rain total pile up without having to go outside to check the gauge all the time.

I run an analog gauge as well as my Davis.  The Davis just gives you a rough idea of what the day was like.  I calibrate it from time to time. It often seems to run low during heavy rainfalls especially

Constructive. Thank you for the advice. Where's a good place to get an "affordable" analog gauge?

Heck I’d send you one just to atone my sins. It would also be nice to see how much rain you actually get. I was always under the impression that Springfield averaged a bit more than Eugene thanks to upslope.

Probably Amazon or even a used one on eBay.  You could just put a flat bottom container with straight sides (like a tin can) outside and measure what’s collected during a rainfall. It’s not perfect but it’s close.  Would give you an idea if your station is reasonably accurate.  I measured rain with a can for years as a kid.
