Kind of how it felt last June-October when it was never going to cool down. That period will still end up being way more anomalous than this one. We would have basically needed a January 1950 start to the year to be on the same level.

I didn't get rain at my place until Oct 22nd. I agree, that did some damage on my property.

I don’t think we’ll the the full extent of damage from that stretch until everything fully comes out of dormancy (or doesn’t because the heat and drought killed it)

Except January 1950 is an existing precedent. We would have needed a winter month with cold and snow greater in magnitude and duration than that in order to equal the playing field.

It may come as a shock to everyone, and will probably be thrown back in my face at some point, but I’m gonna go ahead and say it. I’m looking forward to the first sunny day in the 60s. 🌞 🌸 😎 👍

Although I’m definitely not sweating it too much, since I’m sure there will come a time where we once again get way more warmth than we bargained for at some point this year.

I think it's great that you can see one can both recognize the drawl of global warming and it's slow, agonizing transformation of our climate, and also the benefits of enjoying an objectively beautiful early Spring afternoon, without threatening the legitimacy of either perspective. They do not contradict one another.

Totally off topic but I am going to my first XFL game with the bros this Saturday. Has anybody gone to a game yet?

Josh Gordon is fun to watch, I was bummed when he didn’t work out as a Seahawk due to his substance issue.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I find I enjoy them more when they are really earned, and it doesn’t come with that unsettling feeling of way too much of a “good” thing.

Not a single mention of the Puget Sound Convergence Zone in the Museum of Modern Art... 😔

But there was an exhibit depicting the many potential profiles of Jesse we haven't seen yet.

Downvote = someone can dish it out but has trouble taking it!

Already by last September a simply horrifying number of hemlock trees in Stanley Park had perished due to the combined effects of drought and insect infestation.

I look forward to the first afternoon where I will be comfortable cycling in shorts and a tank top. Which for me is 60°F or warmer, provided there is full sun.

Like a 50 burger in January?

Those don’t matter too much overall. Although sub-50 streaks are fun in the winter mainly because they have been relatively rare in recent years.

Not impressed by showers this afternoon, it’s been too overcast.

Agreed... too much mid-level cloudiness to warm the surface and build convection.   At least so far.   Maybe the convection will be driven by the upper levels though.

What were 1945/46 to 1947/48 like?

1945 was the start of the PDO flip but despite a troughier pattern compared to the previous couple years, 1945-46 was more of an interior Western winter that was pretty mediocre for WA/OR.

1946-47 was a pretty good winter for most of the West and had fairly regional snow events in the PNW in mid November, mid January, and the end of January. Really good winter from Olympia-north. Also a big winter in the SW and southern Plains.

1947-48 was a NE-centric winter for the first half and then flipped to very troughy (not too snowy though) in the PNW in the 2nd half of the winter and that spring, which really marked the turn into the deep -PDO phase that dominated the next decade. The cold/wet spring in 1948 also really contributed to the massive snowmelt floods on the Columbia and Fraser Rivers in late May.
