February 2019 Weather in the Pacific Northwest - Part 1

Temp is dropping quickly at PDX now, reporting snow now. Radar is filling in nicely from my north but I'm at my peak temp of 39 now. Come on cold air. Portland traffic these days, just ridiculous it takes hours to get from Clark county to HIllsboro and even air can't escape it now.

 

Traffic does suck there. It’s always 45 min at least to the Columbia River bridge from Tigard. If i head over to my moms in se Portland it still take 45 min via 205 bridge....no win scenario

18z shows a major snow even next weekend for about everyone. Big time. 30hrs of snow non stop. Perfect track for major event.

techinially shows most as rain, but it’s way underdoing the gorge effect. I would put my money on most that precip falling as snow at face value

No doubt, only 24 here. That area of Skagit where Skagit lives is as bad or worse than downtown Seattle for some reason.

Southerly flow and rain until the low comes far enough south and then the moisture runs out when the offshore flow gets going and it is cold enough. Hmm sounds a lot like something we've seen down here before. Unless it is an overrunning event with cold air already in place and only offshore flow it is highly suspect for the lowest elevations IMO. 

 

Looks good for you and anyone with elevation though.

I’m seeing 27 at SEA, 21 at BLI as of 2pm. Hard to imagine temps close to above freezing in between those two locations (even closer to the outflow). Might want to check your thermo for overexposure.

We’re protected from the outflow by the Chuckanut Mountains and far enough north that the sun has popped out. We’re actually protected enough that we barely had any wind last night. If you look at other thermometers in Western Skagit County you’ll see many of them have/had high temps around or above 30. To be fair we’ve obviously seen the peak of the temperatures for the day as we’ve dropped back down to 27 in the last half hour.

Very odd that the GFS has dry places like Quincy, Moses Lake and Ephrata getting more snow than the heart of the Cascades.   Not buying that.

Last I heard he was walking the shoulder of I-5 south. Should be approaching the Terwilliger curves at this rate.

Looking at webcams and was impressed to see that I-5 is still completely snow covered in many areas. This is in South Everett about 2 miles from my house.
