February 2019 Weather in the Pacific Northwest - Part 1

Goes to show how overstated our reputation for rain is.

SEA just needs 5 more days like today this month... and then we could have 22 dry days this month and still end up normal.   :)

These model runs are more fun than watching karma ***** slap Governor Northam.

I am guessing 80% of us have no idea what you are talking about... and 80% of us probably could not even name the governor of Oregon until you included it here.

The KSEA AFD is a non-starter for Puget Sound snowfall. Good grief.

Reading that really does give you the impression that nothing will happen and it will just be a very non eventful 7 days+.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Just read it... I thought the discussion was spot on for the next 5 days.

It was clearly leaning away from what the models show for the reload... but that is probably because its way too early to go full board with that event at this point.

It's too bad tomorrow will hit 50+. Our first 50-less February since 1891 would have been kinda fun  :(

He cites the 18 GFS as to why he expects no snow in the Puget Sound yet the 18z shows 1to 3” by Monday here

Maybe he meant the 18Z ECMWF?

18Z GFS?

I think they know to ignore GFS snow totals.    We have seen the GFS spit out 12 inches of snow for Seattle and nothing happened.

Seattle is one of the worst places in western wa to think thats how much it rains around here. I'm just west across the water and 65 inches a year is normal.

Just checked out the CFS forecast for February. NW Oregon is shown with about a -4/-5F anomaly for February. W. Washington -5/-7F. Would be incredible to see that pan out.

Every single 5 day period for the month ends up below normal. The coldest period in W. Washington is 9-14th, W. Oregon it is the 11-16th.

Annual average rainfall for WA...

For someone who hates rain so much, is there a reason you choose to live in the Cascade foothills? You could just as easily have your yuppie palace on a hill in Bellevue or Redmond, get more snow than Seattle, and less rain than where you are now.

This has been covered.

And it’s your fault for asking.

We absolutely love it out here.    The trade off on the rain is natural beauty and much less congestion.

And it often just rains harder out here when its raining.    As an example... SEA averages 68 rainy days in the Oct-Jan period and the Cedar Lake station near my house averages 74 in that period.     In January... SEA had 15 dry days and we had 16 dry days out here.

And we can always go to Issaquah or Bellevue in a few minutes on the days when its sunny there and raining here.

I do not complain about the rain much... but I do post about it all the time since its our dominant weather.     I have not complained once this winter about the rain... its been lovely and yet perfectly normal.     Go figure.

Just noticed the CFS develops a monster GOA vortex toward the end of the month. Would probably turn things really wet.

That’s not going to happen. At least not yet.

Very unlikely the pattern goes 2012ish w/ the upcoming AAM/ENSO progression.

No.    You cannot see the Olympics until you get to the Issaquah Highlands... they have a spectacular view up there but they can't really see the Cascades.

There are many places in the Bellevue and Lakemont area that have awesome views of both ranges.

We also have no view of Rainier out here.    But there is a great view of Rainer from Mt. Si.
