Raining like Madtown, USA right now. Heavy rain, thunder, lightning. Quite a show.

The 2nd front is moving through today. Rain will slow by afternoon and temps will fall.

We're expecting our first freeze. Wind chills in the 20's.

Currently 41, Low of 31 tonight. Breezy-15-25mph.

A week early on the freeze. Pretty consistent with the rest of the subforum.

Fixed for ya!  (Friday midnight begins November after all)

Might be more than just "gales" on Huron per a snippet from DTX

There is actually a low chance that wind gusts may

approach storm force on the open waters of Lake Huron overnight

Thursday into early Friday morning. Winds and waves will gradually

weaken during the day Friday as the storm system exits to the

northeast.

I cant wait! :) This is one of those years that it's literally hard to write what I think is coming for us from Thanksgiving on, because it sounds so crazy.

I'm glad you finally got the drought off the board down there!

It's good to get this rain, but I'm very interested in how far south all this cold will sink.

If it's what many of you suspect this winter, then North Texas should pick up its share of deep cold, perhaps some snow.

I'm wondering if we're looking at a repeat of winter 2008-2009 down here. A lot of snow, rain, and misty fog that winter.

Deep heavy gray skies that winter.

After some minor research; several climate sites in MT are on the verge of their coldest OCT on record. Especailly if you consider it at one location (aka the Airport) and not some other location which back in the day was usually a Fort near a river in a valley.

Woke up to 17 degrees this morning.  Quite chilly if I do say so myself!  Yesterday morning our front pond was almost completely froze over (was 22 degrees yesterday morning). I would have thought most of it would have melted throughtout the day, since typically that's what happens initially in the fall, but it stayed cool enough to where it didn't. After today's quite cold morning, it froze over even more.  Before you know it, we'll be ice skating!  Actually, I hope we have some good ice that forms before snow falls.  Will make for great ice fishing this year!

A new October record low temperature for the lower 48 states was set this morning when Peter Sinks, Utah fell to -45.5 between 2:15 and 2:30 am. The previous record was -34.5 set on October 28th (two days ago). The record prior to this year was -33 at Soda Butte, WY (Yellowstone National Park) on Oct 29, 1917.

The record for the entire US including Alaska is -48 at Clearwater, AK on Oct 31, 1975. Additionally -44 was recorded at Chandalar Lake, AK on Oct 26, 2008 and Clearwater, AK on Oct 30, 1975

Just came back from the gym, and man, its very dreary outside. Temp at 41F. Lots of leaves are down and it makes driving difficult when braking. Gotta watch out on that.

Today's tidbit that will not be broadcast on TWC-

Spokane had their coldest OCT in 138 years of records. I know one day left in the month but it's a done deal. Through the 30th avg temp has been 42.5F. Previous record was 42.8F set in 1905. Avg temp for today is forecasted to be 31F so take off another few tenths or so.

Can someone post that map that shows sites in the Lower 48 that are breaking records / near a record etc.? It shows different shades of blue dots (or red for max temps) depicting that site is close or breaking a record. I would think this AM is quite blue....Much of Nebraska for example and S in Kansas even to Dalhart,TX and Dallas / FT Worth is very close. I tried a quick Google search and came up pretty much empty.

Thanks

Good Morning. At this time there is a cold rain falling here at my house and the current temperature is at 38°. Yesterday the official H/L at Grand Rapids was 41/34 and there was 0.2” of snow fall at the airport. Here at my house there was some snow mixed in with the rain but that was it. For today the average H/L here at Grand Rapids is 55/38. The record high is 79 set in 1950 and the record low is 20 set in 1988. Last year the H/L was 57/42

I just came back from a morning stroll around the neighborhood and I gotta tell ya, this is quite the shock to the system!  Those gusty N winds and snow blowing in your face definitely had a bite to it.  I'm sure by next week we will all have been acclimated to the cold.  What a way to finish off October.  Something I'll remember for a while.  #WhiteHalloween

I'll have to see what our official low temperature is this morning.  I have seen my varying weather apps show anywhere from 5 to 9 degrees.   That would break the record low for the date which was 14.  My wunderground app still says temp at 5 degrees with a -3 wind chill.  Yikes.

How much snow do you have OTG???

Yesterday somewhere in Utah dropped to -45.5 F establishing a new all-time coldest October temp for the lower 48 CONUS! Just narrowly been colder in Oct up in Alaska back in the 70's.

Low of 30* last night. That tied the record low for Halloween morning.

It will freeze again tonight.

Temps will slowly climb over the next 5 days to highs in the low 70's.

No precip. on the short horizon.
