October 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

PDX down to 37, DP 7 with east winds sustained at 33, gusts to 45mph. Wow.

SEA is also 37 with a dp of 3.  Crazy stuff.

I had thought PDX might drop to freezing this morning, but I think we traded some temperature drop for extreme low dp.  Places that are able to decouple tonight could have some epic low temps.

Meanwhile down to 36 here with a gust to 36 a bit earlier.

Part of me was expecting much of the east metro to be stuck in the 40s all night once the wind kicked in, with a stubborn downslope component. Maybe PDX would get lucky and eke out a 24 hour low in the 30s this evening. The efficiency of cold air delivery even with the strong winds has been impressive.

The WRF was spitting out some ridiculous numbers so I figured it would at least be respectable.

Holy sh*t!

Sorry, I was just catching up on the last two pages of missed posts and the early ones were before the front moved in. Wasn’t trying to be a buzzkill troll with the event going on.

Not saying that at all.    This winter could be like 2009-10.     There is almost no chance of a 2002-03 type winter.

I looked up extreme cold events in Pullman and was surprised at how cold 2002 and 2009 were... wanted to see what those patterns looked like out of curiosity.

2002 and 2009 didn't have the other incarnations of cold we have seen this month though.  This October we have cold that is more typical of La Nina years and neutral years, as well as this more Ninoesque looking incarnation.  That's pretty ironic considering we are seeing a more Ninaish look in the tropics right now.

Yeah. This month has been extremely different from both of those months.

Perfectly timed east wind this year.  The wind totally cleaned all of the dead fir needles off my driveway, walkway, and roof.  Clean as can be in front of the house!

That will be pretty evident from the 500mb composites.  Not to mention this month has been far colder average wise for most places.

Why do you keep saying this? It’s just not accurate.

I think this was the sort of stuff Fred was talking about. Let us enjoy our event, Daniel.

If stating facts gets me banned, then I don’t want to post here anyway.

My yard is much cleaner as well this morning.

Very nice... nature did yard work for me while I slept. :)

Quit being such a princess.

Its censorship. As long as you are not personally attacking anyone... factually discussing weather and the overall pattern should not bother anyone. Even if it goes against the echo chamber of enthusiasm.

So do I, overall. But it's sort of obvious what Phil is doing this morning.

This is the last post I'm making on the subject. Too much interesting weather to follow today.

I’ve done absolutely nothing wrong this morning.

No idea how that comment you made would bother anyone. And ironically... that same person endlessly trolls people who enjoy weather they don't like. Complete double standard.

I will say that I am loving this weather!

East wind is still rolling pretty good here in north Tacoma. Trees are de-leafed and a few big tree branches cane down last night. Beautiful sunrise but very chilly and breezy 37 with a DP of 4. Still managed to get down to 37 from 45 even with decent East winds blowing here.

Boring back door blast. Did record a 2.5mph gust which was probably a 12mph gust in reality. Currently 28.9 with a DP of 23. Nice morning! Lots of frost!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I made a factual comment as I was catching up to posts I missed from yesterday. So sue me. I’m not here to appease anyone. And perhaps my natural inclination is to be contrarian to some extent. But I’m tired of having all these evil intentions assigned to me.

Winds are crazy in the West Hills— I’d estimate 50 mph gusts at times.
