October 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

I expect sometime in December Salem will be 34 and socked in the fog while PDX is 42 and sunny with a raging east wind

Or when a major snow happens in both Salem and Roseburg, poor Eugene gets 33 degree rain the whole day. Right TigerWoodsLibido?

Weren't you recently complaining about how persistently rainy it has been at your house?

It was unusually persistently wet for about 3 weeks. Record setting persistently wet in some places. That did happen.

Not sure how that relates to always wanting troughing.

Ridging can produce some spectacular weather here as well... in all seasons.    Unlike in Phil's area where ridging always means his own personal inferno hell.   And troughing can produce beautiful weather as well.

Ridging in October here can produce 62/32 type days... classic gorgeous fall weather.    Not to be feared. :)

Nah, Tim hasn't complained about that since June 2010.

When its unusually persistently wet... I will talk about it.    Same thing when its unusually dry.

Or when its cold... or when its hot... or even when its normal.

Weather happens.

Translated: “F**k this stupid motherf**king blowtorch and f**k all of you who get to enjoy real autumn weather”.

And why attack Jim over an index you don’t even understand? The October myths are amusing but personal attacks should be reserved for those who actually deserve it.

You are posting on the wrong forum about East Coast weather, and so am I, but 95 F at sunset and a high of 98 F in October is ridiculous.

There's nothing wrong with grumbling about the weather being damper and cloudier than one would prefer, but it does seem a tad inconsistent with also always wanting troughing (which is associated with precipitation). But maybe that's just me.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Were at 60 degrees for the first time since 9/27. Clouds have rolled in so probably not going to warm up too much more now.

That was 5 days ago, make it sound like it was 2 months back

Looks like I’ve been outed.

Seriously, if I were to make multiple sock accounts, they wouldn’t all be from other east coast locations. Lol. I’m not that stupid, guys.

I have access to all his logs. I can confirm what location he's really from, but you will have to bribe me with lots of money to tell you. ;)

If it’s hitting Salem and Roseburg, it would be pretty unlikely the banding would produce rain but you never know. We got nailed this last Feb and it’s been a great decade esp compared to that disastrous 1996-2003 stretch so there’s not much to complain about here for now.

Yep, it’s like July never ended. The high of 98*F today broke the all time monthly record of 96*F. Temps are still well into the 90’s as we descend into darkness.

Hopefully today was the last 90*F+ day of 2019..but you never know in this swamp climate.

It has been a good decade. After doing some numbers my place actually is averaging slightly more snow 2010-2019 vs. 2000-2009,

despite having a crippling drought 2014-2015.

So all the locals here raising kids who thought they'd never see white Christmas, well it's back.

Now I’m intrigued. Is he even from the US?

I don't think you caught the sarcasm in my post.   ;)

That speck of turquoise must be Washington County

FACT!!

I used to live there, and whenever Portland was socked in fog in June it was sunny in Hillsboro.

The atmosphere is wildly perturbed this year to say the least.  Our suspicions about the effects of very low solar activity are being born out.

The trough next week is looking perfect to bring a nice shot of low level cold in here.  Perfect evolution and trajectory if the models are to be believed.  Probably looking at another shot at record lows with that!

I really like how the 18Z handles that trough. The 12Z EPS looked similar.

Cuts the warmth beforehand a little shorter too.
