Part II- January 2020 Obs and Discussion

Based on surface obs, the arctic front took about 6 hours to travel from Hope to Abbotsford, a distance of 90 km.

90 km/6 hours = 13 km/hr.

I think this is slower than originally projected. At this rate it would take another 17 hours to get to Seattle (224 km from Abbotsford), but I suppose it was held up by the low center during the day and will now accelerate southward?

Yes. As the low departs the wind and speed of the front should gain momentum.

I would assume it should start to come down the sound a lot faster yeah

The Arctic air has made it to Lynden now.  It has plummeted to 25 there.

00z nam gives western wa a good snowfall Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

There is still hope on that.  The most solid chance for my neck of the woods appears to be tomorrow evening through Tuesday night.

Hey snow your gut feeling will this zone sag south at all?

All models show it will snow south of Seattle by morning.  The million dollar question is how much.  With Arctic air in play you never know.

7PM upper level temps show 850s around -7c and 925s -2c/-3c.

Looks like there is a little bit more of a northerly wind starting in Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Really need to see that pick up for any places hoping to get snow in King County.

Jaya will end up with 6 inches. Need that cz to move south now.

The zone will push south.  Everything shows it happening.  I'm sure bummed the models have wimped on this thing though.  A couple of days ago the low was progged to cross the Central Cascades which would have clobbered the EPSL.

Him cheering something on doesn't change the outcome of what will actually happen. People should ignore him and not be so sensitive.

The NAM is looking bit more like the Euro on showing some snow south of Seattle Monday evening through early Wednesday.   The first feature is the low tracking across NW OR Monday evening and then a small disturbance that tracks inland over SW WA for Tuesday night.  This is looking like a solid prospect for snow in areas that don't do as well tonight.
