SEA is in this view looking to the south... current observation at SEA is "mostly cloudy" and 60.    Doesn't look mostly cloudy to me.

Did some fall prep around the property today including cleaning up the dogs fence line for easy inspection after windstorms. Usually I maintain it during the summer so it’s not such a nightmare in the fall, but that didn’t happen this year. All fixed though!
Also mowed again as well.

Says the guy who lives in So Cal.  40 degrees is not cold, I still walk around in sandals and shorts.  I had to laugh when I was in Huntington Beach a few weeks ago at people bundled up wearing sweaters and jackets when it was about 68-70 in the evening. We went to a bar that had the gas fire pit table things, and a few people were actually sitting up and leaning in towards them.

It's all about where you live and what you are used to.  For a LOT of people up here, 78 is Hot.  Not Tim though....

Come here for New Year's and jump into the ocean early in the morning. Typically it's mid 40s and the water is mid 50s, so it's hardly a polar bear plunge, but it might feel like a bathtub to you.

Depends on sun angle... cloud cover... wind... and dewpoint!   78 can feel a little chilly if its cloudy and windy... we experienced that one day in Minnesota during our trip.    But 78 can also feel hot on a sunny day in the summer with no wind and dewpoint of 60+.

Highs have actually underperformed IMBY today and yesterday. Forecast highs were in the 60s but it failed to hit 60 yesterday and today. High of 57 yesterday and a high of 58 today. Tomorrows forecast high is 66. I wonder if it will underperform again.

Ugh...seeing those sheep....When I was a marine deputy, we had to ferry the wildlife/animal control deputy out to a farm where they were throwing sheep carcasses into the Willamette.  Having to climb up and around the river bank to take pictures and collect evidence, trying not to fall into one of the couple dozen carcasses on the bank made for one of the rougher days on the job.

On what planet? Even 78°F/100% humidity does not produce a calculable heat index. Just feels disgusting, not hot.

I’ve heard Linn county has such a large bald eagle population because they feed on all the dead sheep.

Well, as they say about Sweet Home:   "Where the men are men and the sheep are scared"  😁

Thankfully, that was the only instance I saw of this type of activity, though the farmer who did it was known to do it on a regular basis.  The Animal Control Deputy was chatting with us one morning and told us about the struggles he was having to get proof, he didn't have enough evidence to get on the property.  We told him to meet us at the boat launch the next morning and got him his proof.  Once he saw the carcasses on the bank he had all the proof he needed to set foot on the property and do a proper investigation.  I didn't follow the case all the way through but the deputy and DA worked up an impressive list of charges, and it was a solid case.

I just know that any time I see a sheep now, the sights and smells come flooding back....🤢  I don't do well with strong smells, thankfully all of the deceased people I dealt with were "fresh."  I kept a jar of Mentholatum in my duty bag just in case, but I didn't bring that bag on the boat.

Overall, September continues to be the warm season month that remains most reliably seasonable and least likely to torch.

At SEA for example, 4 of the past 5 Septembers have actually been wetter than normal.

Yeah, even 2020 was technically wet here due to the massive late month thunderstorms. 2017, 2020, and 2022 were all very warm/hot here. Though if you compare that to say August, your point is quite valid.
