Last nights CFS is interesting. Pretty chilly around the 20th of December and then a December 1996 like set up later on. So a lot of rain and 50 degree temps down here, maybe nice up norte.  Gonna be a great winter for y'all.

Another low of 21 in Corvallis this morning. Very pretty outside with frost covering everything. I hope that is not the coldest temp of the entire winter right there, but it very well might be.

I was REALLY close to hearting this one when I first started reading it. You got off to such a good start! Baby steps.

Not exactly the same, but we had a similar set up in February 2021. Not extremely uncommon to get big snows like this. Low came in a bit further south and PDX was on the borderline however this fantasy land example is further north.

I have to be in New Mexico for a wedding between the 27th and 2nd. This would be prime time for a Storm King to arrive.

Had a low of 25 here, Arlington came in at 23 and KSEA at 28.  Pretty unusual for Seattle to be within 5 degrees of Arlington on clear nights.  Usually its 10 to 14 degrees lower here if there is any kind of easterly wind influence at KSEA.  Nice to see KSEA rack up some freezes.

At the very least, a warm/wet mod/strong niño December in the PNW does winnow down the analog pool.

This might be something like December 2015 with a non-stop storm train.    But that pattern absolutely buried the mountains.   Hopefully the upcoming pattern trends colder over time.

SEA had 11.21 inches of rain in December 2015... and the only dry days were the 29th-31st.

This is just off memory, but I feel like that one trended colder as we got later into the month. Until 2021 that was my only white Christmas up here.

I'm sure you did, we had about 6-8" on the ground. I remember there was some thought that trough might have lowland snow potential, didn't really work out for the lowlands as 500-1000mb thickness bottomed out around 524dm down here.

Sizable outbreak of arctic air into Eurasia during week-2. Also fits with warm/wet west coast theme (and possibly -WPO) going into December. But this also shuts down all conduits to arctic air (or even continental air) for the foreseeable future.

This is how far out I have to look for something remotely interesting. Hope we won’t get skunked like 2015. image.thumb.png.6525ce7406b7faa82e5efbd5297608b9.png
