The digging is ok.  We just need the high latitude piece which the 18z EPS hints at.  With the big SSW in progress high latitude blocking would not be surprising.

That's the big change on the 18z EPS.  Arctic front is way further south at day 6 than on the 12z.

That last band re-coated all the trees in North Bend... pretty snowy for 400-500 feet in elevation.

Ok so it's a combination of the lack of high latitude blocking and sub optimal trajectory (aka too much over water trajectory)?

Just had a very intense snow shower move through. Looks like it's wrapping up, but it ended up dropping about 0.5" with some truly massive snowflakes up over 2" in diameter. It was hard to measure depth because the snowflakes themselves created such large variations. Temperature is down to 33F, but snow is melting very quickly now that it has let up.

And the longer days are really becoming noticeable despite the return to dead of winter weather.

Eventually the overwater trajectory gets better on most model runs.

I do agree that the GEFS sucked for the Willamette Valley, really since April 2022 for snow; but this is a better explanation than I can do.
