March 2024 Weather in the PNW

Snowed like three inches the night after we moved back to town. 3/16 I think?

Highland Hills FTW!!!

Those hills are over 1,000 feet higher than Downtown and surrounding areas.

1,000 feet of additional elevation increases snowfall. Shocker.

I was living in Northwest Portland during March 2002. There was no sticking snow snow there. Might have briefly been wet slop falling and melting on contact (that has happened a few times for me in March, and has been the sum total of the March snow I have observed in the lowlands).

Definitely snowed in the Portland metro that month, maybe not much if you were down at sea level. We had 2-3" on St. Patrick's Day morning in Clark County, plus 1/2" or so on the 7th.

Standout stuff for the early 2000s snow dark ages.

We were about 800’ short. Sad shocker.😢

Wasn't my backyard.

Should I start recording snowfalls everytime Burnaby Mountain scores? Or why not Mt. Seymour Ski Area, for that matter? That's in metro Vancouver, too!

Your fault for not living on the right side of the river back then.

The March snow was right there under your nose and your negligence cost you. Hope it stings.

I remember the St Patrick’s Day morning snow very well. Seems like that was probably pretty widespread, I think where I was living at the time was only like 200’. Hard for me to picture nothing sticking in NW Portland. Selective memory perhaps!

Indeed. More than Springfield also. Happens plenty of times.

At the end of the day, it just comes down to living in a crappy location that has lots of S winds in winter and shitt hot N or NE winds in Summer.

That January cold wave carried a lot of weight.  Can't give the winter any less than a C for that alone.  A very weird C though.

Yeah the January cold wave was pretty special. Overall, this wasn’t the wildest most notable winter, but it was not a total regional dud either. It felt like winter. Probably due to the fact it was pretty wet throughout.

Someone has a strange hatred of people who moved here from somewhere else.... regardless of how long they have been here.  It dominates his thoughts since its mentioned numerous times every week.    Also strange that this implies natives don't look forward to spring and prefer winter to go forever.    I assure you that is not the case.

I have lived here longer than a bunch of people on here have been alive.

I'm just glad there is at least one person in this world who enjoys 37 degrees and moderate rain.

Above average temps all through the summer, and precip near normal (which is never a lot to begin with). In other words, it's gonna bake and burn. Again.

The 12z EURO also shows a system track through Oregon on Monday bringing in offshore flow. This would have been a great snowstorm if it occurred one month earlier. But many of us at the lowest elevations should still get some snow accumulations.

I enjoy it because I know how much the mountains need it. That actually matters to me beyond how it looks on the excel spreadsheet I made for my next grant application. And even at face value this weather pattern it isn’t that unenjoyable. Active. Wintery. I enjoyed seeing the flakes fly this morning. Even getting some sunbreaks now! Curious how that system tonight will play out. Definitely looking forward to the updated snotel numbers tomorrow. Truly miserable stuff.

I actually had about half snow coming down here for while in spite of the precip being pretty light and a temp of 38.  Very chilly day for this time of year.
