April 2024 Weather in the PNW

Recommended Posts

Had a loud crack of thunder and several flashes of lightning.  Son slept though that loud blast with the windows open.

There are pictures of houses laying on their sides coming out of Ashland/Boyd County, which is where @Timmy Supercell lives.

Hope he’s alright, last time he posted was right before it hit.

Ashland had the outflow winds and scattered outages/trees down but I don't think this town had a tornado. I have power but most of Ashland reportedly doesn't have internet. Been stuck using a potato Android phone for all of my information.

It was a big storm. Couldn't make out a lot of structure but it looked like some kind of wall cloud may have formed. But shelf wasn't very clearly there. Video was hard to get and it's a good thing I wasn't standing on our deck because a few objects did fly by right where I would've stood.. Lol

The day played out differently than they expected. That first MCS turned out to produce the widest swath of reports and damage. Looked like it also bowed out in West Virginia? One source called it a derecho like storm but not sure if it actually was one.

Over half an inch out here but only .02 at SEA.   That is disappointing considering there might not be much more rain in Seattle over the next week to 10 days.    Models did seem to back down a little on the ridge amplification for next week... probably stays below 70 for most places up here but still quite dry.

SEA has been a bit of a dry anomaly lately. Locations starting a mile or two north they had up to a quarter inch. SEA has been either just north or just south of the rain.

12Z NAM keeps the Seattle area dry through Friday.    Not sure how much wrap around moisture will make it west of the mountains.

For future reference I'm a block over from Central Park in downtown. There is a big King's Daughters Hospital by that park too.

.63” so far since last evening.
Currently moderate rain with almost a few lumps it appears. 37 degrees.
I had snowflakes falling 4yrs ago as well according to FB.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

C-zone is parked up there.   Models show it fading away without moving this morning.    Dry here with the sun trying to break through.

Man being stuck in jury duty the last two glorious days was a bummer; always an interesting experience though. Looks unseasonably cool for a few days but not all that wet? Showers and sun breaks, onward goes Spring.

Picked up about .05” overnight with the cold front, enough to wet the ground a little but nothing significant. Cool down was the big story with temps going from partly cloudy and 75 at 5pm to 47 and rain by midnight.

Mostly cloudy and 44 currently, after a low of 42.

Still raining here! We are definitely ahead of the game if things do dry out for a bit up in my area.

Saw dark clouds approaching 15 minutes ago in North Bend but it didn't rain and the sun came back out.

Glad you’re ok brother! You had me worried haha, usually you’re on here posting immediately after a big storm so I was worried you got hit by debris or something. 🙃

As stated previously, I suspect you’re in for a big league severe season, orders of magnitude above the mediocrity of the last 3 years in that region (meanwhile I’m probably in for a sub-par season, for the same reason). Hope u get some good video!

Interesting how the operational Euro and ~ 50% of EPS members handle next week’s MJO & RWB differently than all other guidance. Leads to an entirely different progression of the NPI and NAM.

Curious to see what ultimately happens.

OTish, but fr I forgot how much trees love prolonged 50°F rain in the spring. It’s been so long since it last occurred I half-forgot it’s actually climo.

Everything is erupting with green, much denser and healthier than last year when it barely rained. Hope it continues.

OT-esque but BRUH, I totally forgot trees even leafed out in the spring. I’m continuously surprised by everything.

Getting a decent hail/rain shower here currently. Knocked the temp down to 47 after a high of 51 so far.

Also saw a large dust devil/small tornado of blossoms earlier in the Safeway parking lot. The wind hit so suddenly when I was in my car it startled me.

Still so brown in Minnesota.    Trees don't like cold and snow in the spring.   Of course despite the delayed start... it stays incredibly lush green there all summer.   More so than here.
