How is your flake size? I’m at a step above pixie dust.

Vis probably half a mile

Yeah, the flakes are small, but there are a lot of them.

It's impossible to measure due to the wind, but my guestimate is 1.5" and I don't see much more accumulating. Probably could've hit the lower end of forecasts if it had started at 5 am instead of 9. Pretty disappointing. At least it's properly cold finally.

Considering how much the models dried out, the storm is playing out as well as it could have.  Moderate to heavy snow has been parked over Cedar Rapids for the last 90 minutes.  Flake size is good and the rate is quite good.

New DVN graphic lowers Cedar Rapids to 2-3".  That shouldn't be difficult to achieve.

Flake size has increased here. Coming down harder

Rip city here…wish it was a tad colder at the onset but can’t complain.  Pavement is wet but colder surfaces are accumulating.  Nice fatty flakes flying Sunday!  Love daytime snows.

I just went out and measured 2" on the main snow board.  It has been snowing heavily for the last 90 minutes and it's piling up quickly.

I went out and tried to measure but it’s very difficult. At most 1”. It’s just not accumulating rapidly at all. 3” might be all we get here.

Kinda feel like that's how it's unfolded here. It looks bad out and feels like it should be accumulating faster but it's just not lol.

The temp gradient is pretty steep, as it started much colder IMBY. It was 30 and dropping at 8 a.m, and by the time the snow started it was already down to 27. Rates have picked up a lot now but the flake size is small.

Ya, it’s pretty wild how just a few miles west it’s in the mid 20’s while I’m at 30F. I’ll take the warmer temps tho if it means the trade is off is a good LEHS/LES bonus later this evening.

There’s is a 3” report in iowa city. After the iowa game I’m going to drive to a nearby park and see if I can get a better measurement that isn’t so affected by the wind.

Why wait til after the game?  Driving to the park sounds a lot better than watching Iowa's garbage offense.

The radar actually is looking rather nice for N IL…as long as it doesn’t weaken or develop and holes we should manage to get at the minimum 6” I’d imagine at these snow rates.  @FV-Mike @BrianJKhow much do you guys have so far out west?  Is the snow fluffier?

very close to an inch. would love to see 5 here

The HRRR is playing catch-up now.  The 19z run drops another 3" on Cedar Rapids beyond what we already have.

The 1 to 2pm hour was huge for us outside Des Moines.  After overcoming the dry air picked up 1.7" in one hour! That will at least make up for the lackluster totals compared to what initially was expected.  And, gotta love it when snow fade interruptions cause outrage at pubs for bowl games! ❄❄😂😂

Hey we just scored!

I took a step out the backyard and the wind isn’t blowing the snow around as bad there. Definitely a couple inches. I’ll get a proper measurement eventually.

About an inch now on the deck with slushy roads and walkways.  Snow still fairly wet.

I just measured 3.5" on one snow board, 4.2" on the other two, so the average is 4.0".  It's still dumping and radar looks great.  We have a real shot at 6", which I did not expect at all.

I said in a group chat last night that I thought we had an equal shot at 0" and 6" in CR.

2021-22 Snowfall: (Hiawatha)

TOTAL: 10.2"

(12/28: 3.0") (12/29: 0.8")

I just found a good spot in the backyard that is protected by my fence and took several measurements. Most were 3.5” or just over. I’ll go with 3.5” for now. Good sized flakes right now and wind isn’t terrible. This should pile up if it continues at this pace.

Man, Iowa had the game won, but then the defense blew it and then Petras did Petras stuff.

It's really dumping here now.  Radar shows a heavy band draping over the Cedar Rapids area, especially the north side.  But, as the snow falls it gets blown south so I'm getting it, too.
