I can't help but to go through my pics of snow and cold when the first threat of winter starts approaching. Feel free to post winters pics here.

Dec 2008...that is my old VW Jetta under a lot of snow! Pic taken on Christmas morning, what a gift all that snow was!

No kidding.

I went up there with some friends in the afternoon on the 23rd and it turned into one of the scariest experiences of my life. Barely any branches were breaking on our way up, but after a couple hours up there they started coming down all around us. A 60 foot tall tree fell right behind us on the path as we were starting down which really kicked us into gear. We ended up basically running down and had to go over like 10 fallen trees on the way with more branches and trees coming down all around us.

It was awesome, but the sheer number of limbs coming down at once was pretty terrifying.

Awesome thread!

Do we have a comprehensive list of all of the snow events the last few years? I think it would be fun to make something like that with input from all of the members about what fell where/when.

No joke. That was probably some of the worst tree damage I've personally seen since the December 1995 storm. December 2006 wasn't even that bad in SW WA.

I did a bit of research awhile back trying to categorize each 6"+ event for the I-5 corridor back to 1900 or so. Getting each small event would take a ton of time.

I didn't get a measurement, but there had to be 16-18" at the top of the hill. I took this in the afternoon and it snowed for hours after this.

Just incredible what that did to the trees.

I saved the all the SWS during the Dec 2008 event, this was the first official one...oh the memories!

Though if I remember correctly didn't we start tracking the first signs of the big change around the last week of November?

February 2011:

189832_187688111275758_8058269_n.jpg?oh=

December 18th 2008 when I woke up in the morning. Ended up with over a foot that day. It snowed this heavily for hours.

28125_109711622406741_1522652_n.jpg?oh=a

Heavy snow caused a semi to slide off the road a couple miles down the road and caused for about 30 cars to get stuck in this area. Excuse the crappy pictures...just taking pics of my facebook cause when I upload the files are too big.

A couple pics from January 3rd this year. The only measurable snowfall in the Portland area this winter. Taken @ my father's house in Oregon City. Only about 0.5" there but most of the Portland area north of OC had 1-2 inches.

Here are a couple pictures I took on January 12, 1998. Major ice storm in Oregon City. Described by the mayor of OC as the worst to hit the town since 1980. We had a dusting of snow on the 11th (as can be seen on the garage roof) followed by 36 hours of freezing rain.

2" of snow on December 24, 1998 in Oregon City. This was the transition out of the major Arctic outbreak that hit the PNW that month. PDX was 27/11 the previous day. That's me at 15 years old! Haha.

This is a video I took on February 6, 2014. Taken near PDX at 5:15-5:30pm. OBS for the hour @PDX were Light Snow/19F/wind E27g35. So much wind was blowing at this spot that nothing was accumulating on the pavement. As you can see everything was blowing further down the street where the calmer wind allowed for accumulation. I had to create a youtube account to share this video since its 115 megs, but what the hell. Why not!

Very similar storms! OC got the icy shaft while Portland got buried in both of those.

Here's a video I took of east winds @ Vista House on 11/23/2013. I'm guessing gusts were 70-80 mph. PDX managed 24 degrees out of this little cold snap.

Picture of snow covered Coast Range @ Seaside on December 26, 2015. Also a shot of Highway 6 heading to Tillamook earlier that day. Lots of low elevation snow!

Very cool video. I have never seen a drifting snow event in shawnigan lake. When it snows it is always under relatively calm conditions.

Thanks! Its a different experience when the wind blows like that. A half inch of snow can look like a whiteout.

Some pictures from the Dec 14 2015 mega storm in Utah. Biggest storm of my life. I measured 19" of depth after 30 hours of continuous snow. The ground was bare before this started.

As we've discussed before, our best snowstorms in SW WA often seem to screw everyone south of Portland. 1/13/1950 is another example. Helps to be on the edge of the battle zone.

These are from March of this year. I got about 2' from this storm, the third largest I've seen in my 10 years here.
