You try getting screwed in every storm and every good pattern

Yep-- same thing happening here in central IA--- forecast of 2-4" turned into .4" -- half of which was ice pellets-- of which none was forecast. NWS here has been miserable the last several events

Is Flowers still holding on to his prediction??

He said he was holding as of Christmas, I keep checking though as I feel any day now he will come out with a video post. It just seems out of reach at this point. Who knows though. I'm banking on the Boston winter of 2015. Didn't have squat in December and first half of January and then hit big to finish out the winter. Haha. Not likely I know.

Since the snowblower broke 3 winters ago,, the wife has been hassling me to replace it. I  said we don't need one anymore, cuz we don't get anymore winter events over 6". At this pace-- I'am going to get rid of my shovels also. All they do is collect dust,, more dust then snow shoveled

Have used the snowblower once in 3 years. It is in the garage but haven't really even thought about it. bastardi's winter forecast had the central plains in above normal snowfall. I like him, but he hasn't shown that graphic in a long time, just his cold forecast. Jim flowers had predicted over 40 inches. We would need an epic change in the pattern and record snowfall the next 3 months for this to happen.

I hope I am totally wrong but looking at brown ground almost every day is depressing.

Got a book for Christmas called Nebraska weather. Put out by the Omaha world herald, it is filled with great photography and history of all 12 months.

One paragraph just struck me, it says our lasting snow cover has become less frequent, I agree with that. It then goes on to say that the snow season has shrunk by over 6 weeks since the 1980's due to a general warming.

I had not seen this before. Any other Nebraskans heard this information before? Have others read or experienced this shrinking snow season in your state?

Not a Nebraskan but I've noticed in the long term trends that the cold seasons did shorten post climate shift of the late 70s over almost all of the central US. I know there's a lot who think it's global warming but I don't think it has much to do with it. My mesonet page has the seasonal averages since 1895 on a graph and it's very obvious to me that it's cyclical and more related to a longer cycle/tendency of the pdo. The cold seasons should lengthen as we go forward over the next few years. I think the unusual nina, pdo, temperature quadripole in the Pacific is the beginning of that trend. Time will tell though.

Thanks. That is a great chart. I know when I ask about the 1970s my dad says that many talked about a coming ice age and shorter growing seasons and shortages of food that might then occur.

Yeah. I've researched a lot of articles written around the 1976-1980 timeframe that were full-on apocalyptic cold panic. Lol. Not entirely dissimilar to the AGW panic of the present.

That chart corresponds perfectly to the weather I experienced over the years in the NE Kansas area.

One year in the early 1980s, Topeka had at least 1" or more of snow on the ground for I believe 54 consecutive days. It is hard to imagine that could ever happen here now based on the winters of the last 20-30 years.
