Okay so since the so called windstorm is now a non event, we can focus much more on the rain and temps in the 40’s…So epically exciting!!!! 🎉

Will be interesting to see how windy Sunriver gets tomorrow. I’m not sure how good south-central OR is for windstorms like these.

I'm not sure either, but looks like it could gust pretty good tonight and tomorrow. Hard to locate the Bend area on Weatherbell maps

I have a weird feeling (a gut feeling) for this timeframe as well and I'm scheduled to fly out on the night of the 19th. 😱

I am thinking a little later. January 25th and then on into February...

Yes, because it's going to be SLAMMIN' Oregon it is now a non-event.

Still 62F! Also, wind gust of 42mph.

1980-81 - A horrid winter in the PNW, though it did feature some early December cold.

Lock it in!!! Wait it’s the CFS.

This dovetails nicely with the EURO weeklies. I'm excited about troughing, onshore flow, and changing wavelengths.

It's almost always breezy over here, just the nature of the area.  In these instances with a decent low riding the NW WA coast, we will probably have sustained 30-35 with 50-55 gusts, which is inline with the wind advisory issued.  If it were to move 200 miles south then we would be in business.  Seems like it gets windier over here when the low is closer, which makes us different the willamette valley.

The backend of that storm has been consistently modeled to be quite the wicked thing-- a tight and well-oriented gradient swings through.

That looks more like reality.  This will be a decent wind event, but the details just aren't there for a major one.

This is the lead for the NWS Seattle office. Seems to be taking todays error kinda hard.

I wonder where he's from.  He'll probably ask that more than once before next summer.

In all seriousness though I think he's taking that mistake a bit too hard.

60mph gusts here should be the most significant since 2017 or 2014 I think

Down there is might be a little more impressive due to tighter gradients.

Will only take a slight jog north for it to be a different story up here.
I still have fond memories of my dad and I sitting in the garage hearing the wind roar and seeing the constant flashing of transformers/fuses popping in the night sky in December 1995! It was amazing!

Just started dumping at our place in twisp. Looks like mostly snow. Temp is 29. Got up to 33 earlier for first above freezing day in quite a while. Heading up first thing in the morning…hope there’s not much ice waiting for me

Temp is down to 43 here so it appears the torch is about over.

You will somehow manage 80mph gusts through the Strait as a gift from the weather gods

Oof moment, I know how it feels. With how incredibly complex our area is for weather, I hope he doesn't beat himself hard for any mistakes. It just comes with the territory, gotta remind yourself that you're human after all.

I enjoy a good windstorm but because I work in park maintenance I don't care for the cleanup required.  Since I am on vacation this week, my coworkers who are working can deal with it if anything significant happens.  The Hanukkah Eve storm in 2006 was terrible...it took us weeks to clear the 5 mile drive at Point Defiance.  Don't want to deal with that again!

I work from home so I HATE windstorms.

Garfield County/Pomeroy, WA:

2023-2024 Snowfall totals: 14.3 inches

HIghest snow total (per event): 5.8 inches total 1/11/24 - 1/12/24.

Most recent accumulation (non trace): 0.20 inches on 2/26/24

Days with  trace or more snowfall: 12/01/23 (0.60), 1/8/24 (1.0), 1/10/24 (3.5), 1/11/23 (3.5 inches with Thundersnow; separate event from prior day), 1/12/24 (2.30). 1/14/24 (T), 1/17/24 (1.20 inches), 1/18/24 (1.5 inches), 1/19/24 (0.20), 2/09/24 (0.30), 2/26/24 (0.20-mainly graupel), 4/5/24 (T)

First Freeze: 10/27/2023

Last Sub freezing Day: 1/20/24 (12th) (8 days in a row from 1/12/24-1/20/24)

Coldest low: -12F (!!!!!!!!) (1/12/24)

Last White Christmas: 2022 at my location (on ground)

Seems like also a culmination of events last few weeks as well. Definitely feel for them.

So remember guys, if there was ever an urge to shiiit on the folks at SEW… remember this tweet. They’ve got a tough job here in the PNW.

Weird.  Dec 1995 was a total bust where I was living in Woodinville.  At that time I was really disappointed.  At that time I was still pretty well fueled form the January 1993 storm though.  That one was insane.

I don't like the mess they cause.  I've already had three easterly windstorms this season so I'm good.
