March Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Hard to believe EUG managed a high of 36 on 3/21/2012. Their only sub-40 high after 3/5, and their only sub-40 high in March since 1971.

It pretty much snowed all day after picking up about 7 inches overnight. It didn't really stick though in the daylight hours.  It turned the snow into a wet, dense slop that was perfect for making snowballs.

Currently 39 here with chunky showers at times.  We've had some graupel and some actual snow mixed in with the rain at times.  This thing seems to be a notch colder than I was expecting.

Just looked at the 12z WRF.  Wow!  It shows the EPSL getting dumped on tomorrow night.

 

The sat pic is really amazing right now.  Quite an impressive field of very cold showers off the coast and to the NW.

Saw this today:

I sure wish we could get some record snowy winters back

 

No reason to think it won't happen.  We have had many opportunities the past couple of winters that could have ended up being big events.  We keep getting into cold blocking situations the snow will come.

SEA was already down to 39 at 7pm.  That is pretty darn impressive.  Currently 38 here after a high of 45.

 

No doubt if this trough had dug down slightly further east it would have been historic for this time of year.  Still respectably cold given how far offshore it still is.

Looks like a solid chance many places will see lowland snow over the next 36 hours.

The pattern toward the end of the month has the potential to be a cherry on top as well. Some runs have been hinting at an intrusion of continental air making it in here for another bout of freezing lows.
