August 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Welcome to the initiation of polar winter. Or at least, this is when I consider NH summer to actually be over, climatologically speaking (when the stratospheric summer high is replaced by the winter vortex).

Stopped in at the lake house to check on things...smoky rain! Glad it’s raining, too bad it seems to be drawing in more smoke though.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Might want to stain that deck before winter rolls in.

It managed to drop to 42.8 this morning, the coldest August temp I've had here since moving in 2010.  Lots of high clouds and smoke now too.

Today is the definition of gunky... at all levels.

In reality despite the histrionics it is a pretty nice day across the PNW. Probably nicer than most days we have had recently.

If you like complete gunk with thick smoke, thick high clouds, low clouds, and drizzle.   It looks disgusting out there.   Cannot see any mountains at all.   Without the smoke... at least the visibility would be better at the lower levels.    And if it was really raining then it would feel like we were getting some benefit.

But we are caught in no-mans land with just a gross day.

We are planning on doing a complete tear down of the sack next spring and going with some sort of composite decking and glass railings.

I'll have to second that. Awful day. R.I.P. summer 2018... Had a couple passing sprinkles, but nothing meaningful.

Cool, that might be a better idea. I didn’t want to bash your deck too hard, but yeah it looks pretty aged/oxidized.

Increase in rainfall totals through Monday...

Could be 0.1-0.2" here. I'll take it. Could settle the dust for a day or two...

58 at SEA at noon with 4 miles visibility in smoke and drizzle. Disgusting.

This morning I realized what you are doing. You know deep down, because you have a better understanding of this stuff than almost anyone on here, that the other shoe is going to drop bigtime this fall/winter.

It has been historically dry/warm for months. And inevitably we are going to get payback, big time. And you are troubled by this, because despite your rhetoric, you can never quite live in the moment, because none of us who follow this stuff really can.

Also it has been a little wetter where you live. So you are simultaneously pissed that you haven't been able to cash in on the historical drought, but you know the area of wetter weather has been so small, you will likely still be part of the payback. So subconsciously you attack all ideas of regional drought and try and convince yourself the inevitable is not coming, but you know it is...Oh yes it is...

Wromg.

Its gross outside. Primarily because of low level smoke. It literally stinks. Disgusting.

That is all.

Today sucks.
