Maybe I’m weird but I’ve always liked the early sunsets. The long evenings can be cozy. On the flip side I’ve always enjoyed the super late sunsets on the opposite side of the year too. I enjoy dynamism when it comes to daylight length throughout the year. To me it would be strange living at a lower latitude where daylight length and sun angle are more uniform year round. I realize this is just personal preference though.
It's amazing to me the people I hear about who try to climb Everest.
I hiked up South Sister from Green Lakes and Broken Top from Green Lakes, when I was a teenager. That's enough for me. I might do it again when my kids are in their teens.
I'm definitely in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp as far as RFK actually polling in the teens come election day, but he is headed toward being the most successful 3rd party candidate since Ross Perot in 1996. He has the name ID and a lot of dissatisfaction with Trump and Biden in his favor. No 3rd party candidate has gotten at least 5% of the vote since 1996.
Yeah, as with any 20k+ summit. Although most the time people die, they are likely inexperienced and made a poor decision to keep pushing despite the forecast inclement weather, or one of their group members die because of bad crevasse rescue techniques. But occasionally an experienced mountaineer will get unlucky and die in an Avalanche, there's only so much precaution you can take to avoid that.
Denali(or Mckinley, I personally don't support changing mountains names, but I think Denali is a much better name than McKinley) hasn't become the sh1tshow that everest has yet, but as with any one of the 7 continental summits, there are too many inexperienced people who pay their way to the top. It's pretty crazy what goes on at Mount everest now, it's just a mountain of trash and rich inexperienced tourists.
