It’s chilly and rainy out this morning but you can definitely smell in the air that the plants are coming to life now. Lots of birds singing at times too. I think there are some birds trying to make a nest under our eaves, and our cat is going nuts at the nearby window.

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

Seattle definitely will hit 60 this April. On the flip side Portland had its first September in history with no highs below 70 just last year. Only difference  between SEA’s and PDX’s record is that one of them actually happened.

Very true Jesse. Climate Change Tim wants to have it both ways. But we know he can’t.

Some sun breaks now.   Our cottonwoods are finally looking green... which mostly happened today with the rain.    That is at least 2 weeks later than normal.    Usually they start leafing out at the very end of March or the first couple days of April based on my experience over the last 20 years.    I have pics from Easter in 2011 which was on April 24 (second latest ever) and they look about the same as they do today.     That year was the latest leaf out during our time here.

That's true and I should have been more specific instead of the generic "bad." You're right in that it was probably by far the worst fire season on the west side North Cascades, mostly because fires are so infrequent up here that even relatively small ones are significant.

Too much unnecessary fire suppression for decades has left western North America in a bad spot. There will be more mega fires and likely more on the west side.  Mother Nature is trying to balance things out whether we like it or not.

Our governor wants to eliminate wildfires entirely... they are of course only caused by our warming climate.    Never used to happen.    Good news is that if WA goes to all clean energy then we alone can reverse global warming.     Go Jay!

Anything mentioning temperatures above 65 F and Jesse either pukes or downvotes it, regardless of where it is happening. He must sympathize with his fellow climate alarmists from around the world.

Still looks like mid winter. The fact we’ve gone back to rain makes it more like January.

I am also all for clean energy.    Just find it funny how clueless our governor is on the natural climate of the west.

It was about 70 degrees in Lewiston today, maybe high 60s but it was sunny and perfect. I enjoyed about 30 mins of sunshine on our church's grass lawn in the early afternoon. It was maybe low 60s here.  It has been overcast here the last few hours though. Now it's 50 degrees and raining light but steady and started about 4pm. My wife and son should be arriving home from Clark County any minute now so I'll have to unload their bags in the rain. But that's not the worst thing.

Rained pretty hard a bit ago but no thunder here. Maybe we see a thunderstorm tonight or in the next couple days. Radar doesn’t look all that impressive to the SW here at the moment.

Yeah that squall moved through here and now the sun is out.

This is definitely true for east of the Cascades and south into southern Oregon and California, but the western Cascades of Washington are on a 500-1,000 year burn interval, if not longer. Fire suppression hasn’t really tipped the scale too much in these generally cool and wet forests. Has a lot more to do with the warming and drying of our summer climate in recent years.

Everyone is always offended by something.  You take the cake.

The statistics are real and Oregon is actually in the top 10 for states.

In wet, dark and dreary places peoples mental health can suffer.  Those are just facts.

We all want some sun right about now except you.  Facts again.

The big cities with the highest suicide rates in the US are Las Vegas, Colorado Springs, Tucson, Sacramento, Albuquerque, Mesa, and Miami in that order. Those must be some dark wet dreary gloomy holes!

This is not a good topic.  But I have never thought there was connection to weather.   Its relatively easy to go some place else if its that bad.   I have read that there is a connection related to altitude and physical effects on the brain.

Not a good topic, but a fascinating one. Did you know more women attempt suicide, but more men are successful.

There is a significant correlation between elevation and suicide rate. Five of the top six states for suicide rate are in the Rocky Mountain region: Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah.

Also let's end the suicide talk here. Not gonna lie, we don't need that here in the main topic weather forum. There are multiple other banter threads you can freely talk about that really heavy stuff in. Hell, you can even tag people if you want them to hear what you say! Or DM them
